7:47pm Wow. What a knock. Hope, to absolutely no one's surprise, headlined this West Indian innings, getting to his 19th ODI century. This was also a game in which he became the second-fastest West Indian to 6000 ODI runs, and he celebrated that occasion with aplomb. The batting innings, more or less, revolved around him, with the rest chipping in enough to ensure WI have gotten close to 250.

NZ will feel they gave away too many runs towards the end. Their start was good, and they did decently to reduce the visitors to 130-6. But as it has often happened this tour, they could not quite rein them in as they began flexing their muscles at the death. Smith was the pick of the bunch, but Tickner, brought in for a game at his home venue, struggled. Which means NZ now have a tricky run-chase in front of them, although they will hope their stroke-makers can thrive too. We will be back soon to kick off the second innings.

Nathan Smith: It was nice to pull it back, get some rhythm through the middle. (On the conditions) Always offers a bit when you bowl in the nice areas. But if we missed, we got hurt. Pretty good score, but if we bat well and cash in, we will be alright. (Conversations with his skipper around bowling plans) It was about holding a length as long as possible. A bit of bounce and lateral (movement on offer). We could keep taking wickets, so did not have to change it up much. Hopefully I am not needed (with the bat), hopefully someone gets a big hundred. We showed them how to bowl (probably) by getting them to hit to the bigger straight boundaries. Hopefully I am not needed, but if I am, hopefully can pull the stumps out of the ground (via a win).

Jamieson to Hope, 1 run, brilliant slower yorker outside off to finish the innings. Hope can only squeeze it out into the off side for a single, and West Indies finish on 247!

Jamieson to Hope, FOUR, Hope continues on his merry way! Dug in short and that is just too much width for a batter batting on 104. Hope throws the lot at it and slashes it behind point!

Jamieson to Hope, no run, excellent yorker on middle and off. Hope jams down on it and clinks it out towards sweeper cover. Single denied, rightly

Jamieson to Hope, SIX, oh my word - what a way to get to a sumptuous hundred! His first hundred against this opposition. His first hundred in this part of the world, and he has gotten there in some style. Slot ball on middle stump. Hope gets his front foot out of the way and creams it into the sightscreen. Clenched fists and the taking off of the helmet soon follows. Applause from his teammates and from those at the ground. This has been a sensational knock!

Right. How far can Hope take this score? And can he achieve a personal milestone in the process?

Jamieson to Seales, 1 run, short on middle and leg. Seales drops it to the left of the pitch and the skipper is on his bike. Single completed rather comfortably and Hope does get back on strike

Seales is the last batter in. Surely the brief will be to get his skipper back on strike?

Jamieson to Springer, OUT, spliced to extra cover, and WI are nine down now! Hard length, nipping back into middle and off. Springer has a flay at it but is cramped for room. Does not get any purchase and the ball floats off the sticker towards extra cover. Young tracks it and lunges forward to complete the catch. Hope still at the other end, and stranded on 98!

Jamieson to Springer, 1 wide, banged into the track on middle and leg, and this balloons over the batter's head. Left alone and called a wide

Springer on strike for the start of the final over. WI on 234. Hope on 98. Jamieson to bowl

Sowmya : "Looks he was never off strike! Oh my word ! What headspace he is in !"

Henry to Hope, no run, nails the wide yorker and Hope cannot get this away. Chops it possibly off the under-edge and the keeper fields it on the bounce

Henry to Hope, FOUR, another low full toss, and this screeches away to the fence too! Plenty of width on offer. Hope peels the outer cover off the ball and scythes it through point!

Henry to Hope, FOUR, Hope moves to 94! Gentle full toss on off stump. Hope does not try to hit it too hard and threads it beautifully between extra cover and mid off!

Hope on strike for the first time in 15 balls
