6:07pm It felt as if that innings lasted forever, and that was because it did. Four hours and some change, and NZ have mustered 269 through the course of it, with Mitchell again the standout in this format. His century came after NZ had been rocked twice in two balls, and gave the hosts the sort of platform they needed to push this score past 260. There were starts for Bracewell and Conway too, but neither could kick on like Mitchell did.

West Indies' over-rate, for most parts, was woeful. They also dropped a lot of catches, but their bowlers did give a good account of themselves. Chase and Seales were the pick of the bunch, with Forde also doing well. This score could have been a lot more (could have been much lesser too), but given WI's recent batting struggles, they will need a big effort to chase this down. Join us in a bit for the start of the second innings!

Seales to Foulkes, 2 runs, excellent yorker to finish things off. On the toes and Foulkes tucks it towards deep mid wicket before scrambling back for the second. NZ finish with 269!

Seales to Foulkes, no run, length ball speared into leg stump. Foulkes moves across, looking for the scoop but does not lay bat on ball again. Not called a wide, rightly. That was inside the new tramlines that is painted these days

Seales to Foulkes, no run, this is a cutter, fizzed into the track on middle and leg. Foulkes backs away, trying to carve it over cover, but only connects with fresh air

1w
Seales to Foulkes, 1 wide, sharp bumper, tailing in just outside leg. Foulkes taken by surprise a little and cannot catch up to it. Tries the upper-cut and misses, but his blushes are spared by a wide call. Wide on height

2
Seales to Foulkes, 2 runs, follows the batter outside leg with a fullish ball. Foulkes flicks it towards deep mid wicket and gallops back for the second. Good hustle
49.2
1
Seales to Jamieson, 1 run, hard length, angling into middle and leg. Jamieson clips it towards deep mid wicket. Rutherford fumbles but recovers in time to prevent the second

Jamieson to try his luck

Seales to Mitchell, OUT, holes out to deep mid wicket, and Mitchell's resistance has finally been broken! Off-pace and into the track on middle and leg. Mitchell is hitting to the longer boundary on the leg side and just runs out of juice. A bit of a shank too, and Rutherford, stationed well inside the ropes, gobbles up the chance. Hagley Oval rises as Mitchell walks off the park, and this innings, like most of his previous hundreds, has rescued NZ from a tricky situation!

We have ticked over the four-hour mark, as far as this innings is concerned. NZ up over 260 too. Can they push towards 275? That could be a very good total on this track. Speaking of the over-rate, WI have been penalized and they can have just four fielders on the fence
