Suryakumar Yadav, India captain: I feel credit goes to all the batters. The way Shubman and Abhishek started, they knew this was not a 200-220 wicket. They batted very smartly. It was a complete team effort from the batters. [Bowling] The message is clear. Me and Gauti bhai, we are on the same page. There was a little dew but the bowlers adapted quickly. [Dube and Washington bowling] Always good to have bowlers give you 2-3 overs. This combination suits us. People chipping in, raising their hands, bailing their side is great.

Mitchell Marsh, Australia captain: I thought 167 was par. It provided us with a few challenges. We failed to go over the line. Fair play to India and they are a world class team. [Too much chopping and changing] It is great. You ideally want to have a full-strength side at all times but the boys have a big series coming up. We want to give more boys the opportunity. More opportunities these guys get, I think is great especially in a high-pressure game like this.

Axar Patel is the player of the match: I batted at No. 7 and had a chance to look at the wicket. There was some unexpected bounce, so I waited for my position and just hit. When team needs, that is my preferred position. I just want to have an impact on the team. [Bowling] I was thinking what was the batter's strength. If the batter was looking to hit me down the ground, I was looking to hit the good length.

9.54pm Australia have collapsed and how! They were placed comfortably on 67 for 1 in the ninth over and looked well placed to chase down the 168-run target. But Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy staged a terrific comeback. Axar, in particular was superb. He worked the angles and picked 2 for 20 in his four overs. Shivam Dube also picked two important wickets, while Washington finished the game with 3 for 3 in 1.2 overs as Australia were bowled out for only 119 in 18.2 overs. India have taken a 2-1 lead and will go to Brisbane knowing they can't lose this series. All of the six Indian bowlers picked at least a wicket, and this is as comprehensive a win as India would have hoped for.
