5:12pm: What an entertaining first day in Bulawayo as South Africa come away the happier team at the end of play.
The hosts started brilliantly, with Tanaka Chivanga getting the early strikes in as South Africa were 23-3 and then 55-4 in the first session. However, it was the debutants who counter-attacked for the visitors as Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis put on a quickfire 95-run partnership to get South Africa into the game. Brevis's impressive 51, and Pretorius' magnificent 153 saw South Africa begin to dominate, with the former the youngest to score a century for the Proteas aged 19, and the youngest-ever batter in men's test cricket to score 150. Just as Zimbabwe's hopes were beginning to rekindle, up stepped no.8 Corbin Bosch with a superb century, his first in first-class cricket, as the South African tail wagged to reach 418/9 at the end of day's play. Zimbabwe's choice of going with only two pacers in their bowling lineup came back to haunt them, as they could not capitalise on a fantastic morning session.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius: 'It was amazing. I was quite nervous as 23-3... but it's been a dream come true. I don't think it's sunk it yet. I'm glad today it's over...We knew they only had two seamers and we knew we could take the spinners out of the attack...I just love batting, fortunately it worked out for me today. It's a real dream come true, and for my parents and family to be here, it tops it off.'
It was quite the record-breaking day for Pretorius, and Sampath has helpfully collated all of them, here.
That's it from us today. Do join Himanshu and Aaditya tomorrow as they bring you live coverage of Day 2.
Christopher: "So we get our 90 overs, and that with more than 400 runs and at least 9 wickets. Zimbabwe showing the bigger teams how to bowl punctually."
Field comes in.
Final over of the day. Bosch needs three. Chivanga to bowl.
