3.55pm: Sun's back out. Matt reckons a 4.10pm resumption might be feasible. Fingers crossed. In fact, that is now official. Assuming no more rain.

3.51pm: We're still waiting for a resumption. The covers are firmly in place for the moment. The outfield has been so damp of late that it probably doesn't take much to set it back. Anyhow. What's going on in Dubai then?

3.40pm: We have a restart imminent! We will be back on at 3.50pm and with no loss of overs. Hurrah ... No, we won't... it's raining again! Daft sport...

"Another passing shower," says Matt... yep, a few of those around today. "Stopped again." Woot.

3.30pm: Sun's out. Covers coming off... hurrah. You've probably got enough time to see what's happening over in Dubai... but don't get too sidetracked!

3.23pm: The covers are firmly in place for now, though there's some suggestion of movement in the offing. Time to put the kettle on, clearly.

"Stopped again," Matt confirms. "Umps out there, McCarthy and Young getting loose."

3.15pm: Hello again. The bad news is that that rain is still lingering. There's something damp sliding down the Irish Sea, so this afternoon may be a bit interrupted. The good news is that Jordan Cox will be fit to bat, after jarring something while taking a catch earlier.

Richard: "As an Essex fan, I do wish England would stop picking Cox. They keep on breaking him. "

Nick: "The reassuring thing for Baker is that the worst figures on debut in T20I are by this bowler called... James Anderson. " Silver linings and all that...

3.10pm: Ah, well maybe not 10 minutes, as it has started raining in Malahide (where it was sunny just a short while ago). The covers are being dragged on - hopefully it's just a passing shower

3.05pm: A patchy effort from Ireland, and you'd think England will be the happier at halfway. The top order got going okay but at 102 for 7, things were threatening to get undignified. Gareth Delany saved some face with his unbeaten 48, while Sonny Baker suffered another tough debut - the third-most expensive for England in T20Is. Here's Liam Dawson with some thoughts at halfway: "Nice pitch to bowl on, little bit of hold. Just got to hit your length. Any time you get 150-160 you back yourself to chase it. Pitch's probably slower than the other day. [Ireland trip?] Had a great time, played a bit of golf, great place to come." Miller will be back to kick off the chase in 10

Baker to Delany, 2 runs, full length, drilled back wide of the bowler. Bethell fields at mid-off, then looses a wild throw that allows them to pinch a second. So Delany finishes on 48 from 29, and Ireland will have something to bowl at
19.5
4
Baker to Delany, FOUR, donked over mid-off! Pitched up outside off and Delany makes room to carve it over the man in the ring. Ireland raise 150, and Baker has a half-century on debut, too
19.4
0
Baker to Delany, no run, full toss, swatted straight at Baker in his follow through!

Richard: "As an Essex fan, I do wish England would stop picking Cox. They keep on breaking him." This is a fair point

19.3
0
Baker to Delany, no run, yorker, hits his mark, Delany jams it back down the track to the bowler
19.2
4

19.1
0
Baker to Delany, no run, full at the boots and Delany shuffles to leg, chips it short of long-on. Again no run

Baker is back for the last over. Can he improve those figures, currently 0 for 42 off three?

18.4

They check the catch, which was fine - but more of a concern for England is that Cox needs treatment. "Looks like Cox might have done himself some damage here," reports Matt R. "Physio on. Tom Hartley running on, Cox walking off gingerly."

W
Rashid to Humphreys, OUT, slog-swept to deep backward square leg! Humphreys picks out Cox in the deep, another check to Ireland's momentum after a good stand. Safely held low down in front of him, although Cox seems to be grimacing

MJ Humphreys c Cox b Rashid 7 (14m 5b 1x4 0x6) SR: 140

17.5
4
Rashid to Humphreys, FOUR, googly, reversed for four! Humphreys steps across and gets well on top of the ball, beats backward point and picks up his first boundary
17.4
1
Rashid to Delany, 1 run, tossed up and clubbed down the ground. Just a single as long-on comes across
17.3
2
Rashid to Delany, 2 runs, pushed through and driven to deep point, the fade took the ball away from Wood in the deep and Delany hares back!
17.2

17.1
1
Rashid to Delany, 1 run, flat outside off, slashed off the back foot through cover

Baker inching his way up the list for expensive T20I debuts

16.6
1
Baker to Delany, 1 run, pitched up and driven down the ground for one
16.5
0
Baker to Delany, no run, full at the feet, decent yorker. Dug out to deep midwicket... and Delany declines the one, wants the strike
16.4
6
Baker to Delany, SIX, dug in and smeared for six more! Delany is on a mission to make this game competitive (and give Baker another debut to forget). Steps away to leg, takes on another half-tracker - and, I think, shuts his eyes, as he swats it over deep backward square once again!
16.3
6
Baker to Delany, SIX, short and swung over deep backward square leg! Baker continues to go around the park. Delany uses the pace and simply lifts him over the head of Wood and into the temporary stands
16.2
4
Baker to Delany, FOUR, slower ball, well watched by Delany, pinged through the covers! He waited on it, waited on it, and then timed his drive off the back foot
