10.25pm That's all from today. Sri Lanka will go home with a massive boost. This is a big, big win for them in a format where they have had some challenges recently, against opponents who have caused them problems more often than not. For two games in a row, the bowlers have turned up to defend seemingly low totals. India have plenty to think about, including if they want to continue with Shivam Dube and whether Rishabh Pant should continue to warm the benches. KK's report will be up soon, so you can catch up on the match there if you missed the action. Join us again on Wednesday for the series decider. For now, on behalf of Karthik, Binoy and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, this is Abhimanyu signing off. Ciao!

10.10pm Time for the presentation ceremony.

No surprises for who the player of the match is. Jeffrey Vandersay: "There was a lot of pressure coming into the side. I was coming off a layoff. I had to do something. It's easy to take credit with a spell like this but I want to give credit to the batters also for taking us to such a competitive total. No doubt Wanindu Hasaranga is our No. 1 spinner, but I got to understand the atmosphere of the team and selections and team balance. It's tough, but I have to keep motivating myself. There was assistance on the wicket so I was trying to hit the good areas and do the basics right. This is my first game after some time so I had to bowl in good areas. Once I got the first wicket it built up confidence also. I kept hitting the right areas and with God's grace I was able to get six wickets."

The winning skipper Charith Asalanka: "[On their score] I was pretty happy with the score we got on this track. I thought 240 was good enough. [On Vandersay causing selection headaches] Definitely, as a captain, these kind of problems I need to have. It was an unbelievable spell from him. When he came into bowl, they were scoring over 9. [On his role] I am still mainly a batsman and after that I bowl a few overs."

The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma: "If you want to win games, we understand we have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that today. Disappointing, but these things happen. [On left-right combinations] You have to adapt to what's in front of you. With left-right we felt it'll be slightly easier to rotate strike, but that didn't happen. Credit to Jeffrey, bowled really well and picked six wickets. Sri Lanka played really good cricket. [On his dismissal] The reason I got 65 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that there is bound to be risk taking and I'm not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50 or zero you feel disappointed if you don't get across the line. But that won't change my intent. We didn't play good cricket, that's why we lost the game. We do understand the nature of this surface and the nature of how the game is going to go as well. It gets really, really tough in the middle overs. So you have to try and capitalize in the powerplay and get as many runs as possible. That's what both openers were trying to do. But we were just not good enough today. We have played really good cricket in the past but I don't want to look too much into how we played. But certainly there is going to be a talk about how we bat in the middle overs."

10pm A stunning spell from Jeffrey Vandersay which saw him pick the first six Indian wickets has powered Sri Lanka to a famous win here at the Khettarama! Vandersay, an injury replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga! Charith Asalanka took three with the ball again, including the big wicket of Axar Patel, who was leading India's lower order resistance. And after going past their score in the first ODI, which resulted in a tie, Sri Lanka manage to bowl India out for a mere 208. Rohit Sharma gave India a brilliant start with the bat once again, but much like the first ODI, India kept losing wickets once Rohit got out. Axar was looking like he was set to take the visitors home, but he fell to Asalanka and India eventually tumbled. Vandersay records the seventh best figures in ODIs for a Sri Lankan man. And Sri Lanka end a seven-match winless streak in the format against India! And it means that India can't extend their 10-series winning streak since they can, at best, only tie the series.

Kamindu Mendis: "I think it was a good match. I think the team did really well in all three departments. The energy in the field, I have to mention it. The skipper did the job and took good decisions. In the middle, I thought 210-215 would be a good score but end of the innings we got 240 so it was a good innings. I was working hard on my fielding so I think we have to take those half-chances in the games. After the T20s we got together and we had plans. We executed our plans brilliantly."

Amit: "Srilanka were 136/6 to 240/8India 97/0 to 208/10That tells you all."

Asalanka to Kuldeep Yadav, OUT, And that's a run-out! Sri Lanka win! An emotional Vandersay says a prayer. There are high fives all around. Kusal Mendis is pumped. Asalanka is thrilled. What a win for Sri Lanka! Length ball got an inside edge from Kuldeep past the keeper. Kuldeep took off for a run but the slip fielder was quick to recover and throw it to Kusal Mendis who took off the stumps to seal the game and a 1-0 series lead! Sri Lanka can't lose the series now!
