Rachin Ravindra, POTM: It's a nice city, was a nice wicket to bat on, guess odds are in my favour. (Footwork) It's a combination of form and preparation. As long as I'm clear and know my plan, it helps. Know when to go forward or back helps, so does getting into good positions. When you have six subcontinent Tests coming up, you do extra work - indoors, put some mats down, or head out and do some training. Luckily, it all worked out today. Was trying to get a feel of different pitches, red- and black soil while preparing in Chennai, and figure out what positions I can get in and guards I can take to different bowlers. it was a great set-up there, got an open wicket, different wickets, nets everyday, net bowlers everyday, invaluable experience. Grateful for those guys putting it on. I try to be in good positions to be able to score, open up areas. Want to rotate strike too, not necessarily attack. Having family is emotional, phone starts blowing up, crowd too. Makes it even more special.

Tom Latham, New Zealand captain: I thought we'd bat, good toss to lose in the end. Guys put the ball in the right areas for a long time in the first innings and got rewards. Knew India would come back and they did, bowlers showed up with the second ball. We know what a quality side India are, we thought the new ball would help them too, built a couple of big partnerships, hundred stand got us forward. Was nice to only be chasing a hundred. O'Rourke has been fantastic, has hit the int'l stage like he belongs. Hits the pitch hard and gets it to move in the air and off the pitch. Hard to face him in the nets. Southee and Henry too. Southee's partnership with Rachin was crucial. Rachin - a young guy who's played a few Tests, but he's slotted into a new role nicely over the last year. He settled the nerves with his batting today.

Rohit Sharma, India captain: It was a good effort in second innings with bat. We knew what lies ahead, get as many as possible. Couple of guys stood out, was great to watch. When you're 350 behind, can't think too much. Just have to try and bat the ball and see where the game goes. Was exciting to watch partnerships get us into the game. We could've easily been bowled under 350, it's something we're proud of. Everyone's on the edge of the seat when Pant and Sarfaraz bat. Pant's was a mature innings, he's done it for a while, he played his shots too. Sarfaraz was very clear and mature in just his third or fourth Test. (46 all out) I said it at the press conference after day 1, we knew it'd be a challenge, with overcast conditions and tricky pitch. We didn't think we'll be 46 all out but due credit to NZ. It set us back and games like this will happen. Gotta take the good things forward. We've been here before, conceding home losses, these things happen. Two Tests to go, we know what it takes and will give it all in the next two Tests.

Mohanan: "William O' Rourke should be the player of the match" I agree, although hearing Ravindra might get it

Vijay Singh : "Yes Jez, Black Caps capitalised on middle orders' weakness to handle uneven bounce and unpredictable behaviour of ball in overcast conditions. Their weakness become Black Caps' strength."

Jez: "Wow. How about some comments on here on how well NZ actually played to win that game. Took advantage of the conditions. Dug in during periods where the Indians were back in the game. Yes India made some bad decisions but this was a game the Black Caps won on their own terms"

The final day began after a short delay due to the rain. Bumrah, bowling under clouds, showed remarkable skill and control, got Latham early. Siraj kept it tight too. Conway and Latham wore a few blows, got beaten but dug in till a few boundaries came about. But Bumrah struck again, and 35 for 2, the door wasn't completely shut. Ravindra came in and ensured that wasn't the case for long. He was confident, found the boundaries with surprising ease and Young grew in confidence too. In the end, they ended a 38-year drought. The last time NZ won a Test in India was in November 1988!

12:21pm, day 5, end of match: With the washout against Afghanistan and 0-2 loss in Sri Lanka, New Zealand were far from favourites coming into the series. But spirited performances with ball and bat ensure a comprehensive win in Bengaluru. They rolled the hosts for 46 in the first dig, made a touch over 400 thanks to Ravindra's ton. India threatened a comeback by clearing the massive 356-run deficit only three down. But the second new ball brought about another collapse and NZ were left 107 to chase.
