5.13pm 356. That's a massive total, but it's not nearly as massive as it could have been. Excellent contributions from Rashid, Mahmood and Wood to chip away at the wickets and stall India's momentum, after Gill, Kohli and Iyer had taken them to a breezy 226 for 2 in the 35th over. Gill continued his love affair with this ground with another century, and Iyer looked in frightening form while scoring 78 off 64, but the steady loss of wickets meant India ended up well short of the 400 they were threatening at one stage. The ball gripped on this pitch every now and then, and there were cracks to exploit too. Will that continue through the second innings, or will there be dew, and a significant amount of it? If there is, England could be in with more than an outside chance here. Andrew will be here soon to bring you the start of their chase.

Ankit Jain: "Why that wicket of Arshdeep is a run-out and not a stumping?" -- He was looking for the bye, even if it was a half-hearted attempt.

Reju: "Tactical blunder by Butler. Wood misses out on a over and he has been bowling really well."

Colin: "Do those two wickets flatter Wood a little?" -- Not at all. His new-ball spell was superb, and he could have had one or two more on another day. Excellent at the death too.

Elsewhere, the man many are tipping to challenge D Gukesh as chess world champion is breaking new ground with an eSports World Cup appearance. Yet, that and a poor start to 2025 is not going to distract Arjun Erigaisi from his one true goal.

Wood to Arshdeep Singh, OUT, makes room now, and tries to hit this fullish ball, just outside off, over the covers. Can't connect, and he starts off on a bye and just stops a few feet outside his crease. Salt rolls the ball to the stumps and India are all out

Wood to Arshdeep Singh, 2 runs, makes room, Wood follows him with the full ball at his feet, and he whips it into the leg side, making long-on come in off the rope while moving left, allowing a quick second run

Wood to Kuldeep Yadav, 1 run, shuffles across early, and tucks this length ball to deep backward square leg, meeting it in front of off stump

Superb last over, and three balls remain as Kuldeep walks in.

Wood to Washington Sundar, OUT, hard length, angling into off stump, and that sort of length at Wood's pace is very hard to hit. Looks to clear his front leg and go down the ground, but the ball hits high on his bat and pops gently into the hands of long-on running to his right

Wood to Washington Sundar, no run, slower ball on a length, fairly wide of off. Reaches out to carve it away, only manages a bottom edge that rolls to the right of Salt, who stops it with a dive

Wood to Washington Sundar, no run, and Washington refuses the single. Fair enough. Hard length angling into the stumps, punched in the air, on the bounce towards long-on

Arshdeep Singh is in at the non-striker's end. Wood to finish, from round the wicket.

Atkinson to Harshit Rana, OUT, hard-length slower ball on off stump, and Rana can't quite connect this time. Makes room to try and flat-bat it - down the ground is the intended direction, I guess - but it bounces more than he'd like and he skews it in the air to the man at extra-cover

Harshit Rana c Buttler b Atkinson 13 (11m 10b 1x4 1x6) SR: 130

Unnoticed by me, India have gone past 350.

Atkinson to Washington Sundar, 1 run, short, angling away from off stump, gets up around shoulder-high, and Washington flat-bats it down to long-on

Stays over the wicket to Washington.
