END OF OVER:
20 | 11 Runs 2 Wkts | ENG: 132/10 | RR: 6.60

  • Adil Rashid8 (11b)
  • Hardik Pandya4-0-42-2
  • Arshdeep Singh4-0-17-2

8.39pm Well, that was a comprehensive performance from India. Ignited by Arshdeep Singh's super double-whammy in the powerplay, and powered thereafter by the spinners, with Varan Chakaravarthy's 3 for 23 ripping the heart out of the innings. Jos Buttler played a brilliant lone hand while it lasted, but he got stranded at the wrong end when the squeeze was on, and in the end his 68 from 44 seems unlikely to be the decisive factor. But who knows... if the ball swings for England, they have the weapons to make a few top-order dents of their own. Shashank will guide you through it shortly.

W
Pandya to Rashid, OUT, huge hack across the line, no contact, Samson gathers and unleashes the direct hit! Not even a final bye to lift England's total, they've been bowled out with their final ball

MA Wood run out 1 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100

Pandya to Rashid, 1 wide, fired out way wide of off stump... maybe 140 isn't out of reach!

140 is out of reach... can England find one last boundary to inflate their target?

1
Pandya to Wood, 1 run, whacked off the length, on a wide line, under-edged out to the off side for a single

Praveen: "To all the England fans being disappointed. This is the first game and the first innings as well. Plus, England can experiment all they want. The World Cup is a year away."

19.4
W
Pandya to Archer, OUT, short and wide again, carved high, high, high out to point! That stuck in the pitch as Archer swung for the hills. Just a toe-end of impact, and it wasn't enough to clear the inner ring. England's sorry innings sinks further

JC Archer c Yadav b Pandya 12 (17m 10b 1x4 0x6) SR: 120

19.3
2
Pandya to Archer, 2 runs, early shuffle to the off-side, Hardik fired it out wider, Archer connects on a launch down the ground, but only as far as long-off

Nilesh Garg : "One thing that I've noticed from this young Indian side recently has been how good they've been on the field. - sharp catches, quick ground coverage, diving around etc. T. Dilip needs to be applauded!"

19.2
4
Pandya to Archer, FOUR, valuable runs! Very short outside off, might have been a wide had he missed it, but Archer reaches his swipe with a toe-end, and flays it over the keeper and through short third

2
Pandya to Archer, 2 runs, over the wicket, outside off, carved away to the off-side without a lot of power

Arshdeep Singh to Archer, no run, fires in the yorker from round the wicket, excellent ball but his lbw appeal is optimistic as Archer seems well outside the line... we do have a review though. Thumping the shin with no bat involved, but yes, fourth-stump on impact at best
18.4
1
Arshdeep Singh to Rashid, 1 run, slower ball, full toss, lifted back over the bowler's head but with no power. Long-on gathers
18.3

Arshdeep Singh to Rashid, no run, Rashid clears the front leg again but Arshdeep comes round the wicket to close the angle

Jayant Isswani: "Seeing England's struggle against spin, the track at Chennai could also be slow. The third T20I is at Rajkot. That should be a run fest."

4
Arshdeep Singh to Rashid, FOUR, that's a better strike! Rashid stays deep in his crease to the wide line, and lifts it up and over extra cover with an open-faced lift through the line!
