Sherfane Rutherford, Player of the Series: I think it was a good one for me. Have been putting in a lot of work. Could have done better today. It is a game of cricket, some days it goes (in your favour), some days it does not. (On bowling) I have been doing a bit of bowling in the nets. My skipper was happy with how I was bowling in the nets and in the future, hopefully I can get a bit more (bowling). (On the pitch here) It was very good. As a batter when you get out, you feel very upset. You want to make sure you capitalize on every opportunity. Good that other guys are stepping up as well. Always a good feeling (seeing everyone stand up). We talked about making West Indies a better nation and good to see we are taking one step at a time.

Amir Jangoo, Player of the Match: It is surreal. It is an amazing feeling. A lot of hard work, finally paying off. Not sunk in yet, but it feels amazing. I just did not want to make a duck on debut (laughs). He (Carty) is a close friend of mine, made it easy for me. He told me to enjoy my debut and that is what I did. It was a pretty good wicket. Our head coach (Sammy) gave us a clear path on how to score. Every ten overs, we had our targets. I have had a lot of nineties in my career, just wanted to take in the adrenaline and see ball, hit ball.

While West Indies' senior players are engaging in this home series against Bangladesh, their next-in-line batters are undergoing a two-week training program thousands of miles away in Chennai. This is the first time the West Indies Academy players are exposed to overseas training of this nature, and it seems to have served them well.

Shai Hope, West Indies captain: Big step in the right direction. Have been playing good cricket for the last few months. Have been asking the guys to improve and nice to see them putting up their hands. It is a very thin line (on testing bench strength in such games). You want to have that progression and see what they are capable of, but you also have to win games and series. He (Jangoo) was amazing. He has been showing great form. In the Super50, he had success. The way he played, after we lost a few wickets, great to see him finish the game. Got a hundred as well, so very pleasing signs. (On the biggest takeaways from this series) In the past, we have not been winning series clinically and that is a great standpoint for us. Just playing good cricket, we spoke about 3-0 before and great to finish (it with that scoreline).

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh captain: (On the score and their batting) It was a tough day for our bowlers. Our batters did well, we got partnerships. Soumya, Jaker and Mahmudullah - all did well. We could have done better in the bowling and we could not get wickets in the middle overs - that was the problem for us. We are missing some senior players in this series. I have to take responsibility (and bat at four). (On Mahmudullah) He did very well. He got three fifties in this series and it is a good moment for our team. We learn so many things from him. There were chances for the youngsters to take responsibility in this series but we could unfortunately not do so. After this series, we have the Champions Trophy and we know what we need to improve. Hopefully, we understand on how to improve those things (moving forward).

5:22pm It is not often that you run out of words. But today, Jangoo has made people run out of superlatives. Playing his first-ever ODI, and walking into a situation where his side was in a whole heap of trouble, he did not bat an eyelid. It was like he was waiting for this moment from the time he began playing cricket, and when it came his way, he owned it like a seasoned campaigner. No nerves, no jitters, no lack of conviction, just class and clarity of thought.

At the other end, Carty did his bit too and in fact, it was Carty who set in motion the renaissance. He could not get to three-figures but that partnership with Jangoo knocked the stuffing out of Bangladesh, with Motie landing the decisive body blow towards the end.

A day to forget with the ball for Bangladesh. They had plenty of runs to work with, but just could not string together a consistent enough display. Taskin was the only bowler to go at under six runs per over. They also dropped a crucial catch (that of Jangoo) just after the last drinks break and had they held onto that, it might have been a different story. Those ifs and buts, pretty much, sum up their series where they have been second-best.
