1:52pm And so, New Zealand finish with 180, which did not seem on the cards when they slumped to 97-7 earlier in the day. Phillips, though, mixed caution with aggression superbly, picking his spots and putting the Bangladesh bowlers under pressure. He fell short of his hundred but ensured that NZ managed to fashion a first-innings lead. Not much to shout about elsewhere, as far as the Kiwi batting display was concerned, although they will be happy with how their lower order, Jamieson and Southee included, stuck around.

As for Bangladesh, their spinners felt the pinch when Phillips came after them. Their lines and lengths wavered, and it was not until Shoriful break the game open with Jamieson's wicket that they wrestled back some control. Taijul bagged a three-wicket haul, as did Mehidy, with Nayeem chipping in with two. The most crucial scalps, however, were picked up by Shoriful, and that could yet prove to be the difference in this game.

Tea has been taken too, and we will be back in about 15 minutes as Bangladesh look to set a challenging fourth-innings target. Himanshu will be back for Bangladesh's innings.

Taijul Islam to Southee, OUT, Southee bites the dust too, NZ bowled out for 180! Back of a length delivery outside off, and Southee thinks it is short enough to play the pull. The ball holds in the surface, though, and bounces extra, meaning that he cannot control his stroke. Shanks it towards long on, and Mehidy does the rest. Just the eight-run lead for NZ in the end, and this game is now set up beautifully for what looks like a one-innings shootout!

Shoriful Islam to Phillips, OUT, edged and taken! Phillips falls! Full just outside off and like the ball that got Jamieson, this might have straightened a smidgen too. Phillips tries to go downtown but the slight deviation means that the ball kisses the outside edge and nestles into the keeper's gloves. Phillips was not happy about something, not sure what that was, but Shoriful, audibly and visibly, was quite pumped!

Shoriful Islam to Phillips, FOUR, moves on to 87! Drifts onto the pads and gets dealt with. Phillips brings his wrists into play and clips it behind square, through backward square leg for four!

The assistance Shoriful has gotten in this spell shows that Southee and Jamieson could have a role to play in Bangladesh's second innings

Shoriful Islam to Phillips, no run, back of a length outside off, and this one does not bounce as much as Phillips expects. Sneaks under the toe-end as he swishes at it

Shoriful Islam to Phillips, no run, shortish outside off and this zips through. Phillips slashes hard at it but is beaten for pace. Nurul collected that in front of his pace. That flew through! Oh, hang on, Bangladesh think the ball has grazed the edge on the way, and have reviewed this. Not sure I heard anything in real-time but the first replay shows that the ball and bat are awfully close. Flat line on UltraEdge, though, and Bangladesh burn a review. A bit of desperation, perhaps?

Sandeep: "These are the kind of pitches and scores which give impact players like Philips, Pant, Maxwell hope to change test matches in one session. Imagine a century when team was 55/5. Wonderful aggressive batting."
