10.05am A lot of questions coming on whether Pakistan batted just for Rizwan's fifty, and I wish I had the answer. Apart from Multan, two other instances come to mind when teams had declared bravely, not caring about personal milestones: West Indies declared with Frank Worrell on 197 in 1959-60 and England declared with Graeme Hick on 98 in the Ashes in 1994-95. Any others?
Husayn : "Saying Babar did it for Rizwan to reach 50 is an accusation on his professionalism. Maybe it had to do with getting the score above 400, which psychologically seems more imposing. "
Irfan : "Not much happy with batting of 2 overs apparently just for Rizwan's 50. How will one justify it? "
Haider: "didnt Salman deserve a 150...???"
9.56am Pakistan have declared! Just two overs, of which one was a maiden, before came three swept boundaries from Rizwan to bring up his fifty. Did Pakistan really bat today for his fifty? The lead is a massive 410 runs, we'll bring you Sri Lanka's innings in 10 minutes.
Hamid: "If Babar was waiting for Rizwan's 50 to declare than I am sorry that's too much obsession with individual records on part of him specifically and this unit generally" Reminds me of Multan 2004, more than anything
Ahmad: "If they had not declared overnight, they should have batted till lunch." But there's also rain in th forecast
Amaduddin Khan: "Is it enough to let SL to bat" Only SL can answer that
Jayasuriya from the other end with a slip and short leg. Around the wicket
END OF OVER:133 | (maiden) | PAK: 563/5
- Salman Agha132 (154b)
- Mohammad Rizwan37 (61b)
- Asitha Fernando25-1-133-3
- Prabath Jayasuriya52-11-181-2
What Pakball and all? They're 397 ahead and we start with a maiden
Umair: "Only possible explanation on not declaring as yet is Pak's confidence of getting SL out early and possibly to give Rizwan more playing time "
Naseem Shah also emerges in the balcony, he's ready to bowl
Anoosh: "I think the plan from Pakistan is firm, they don't want to bat again. They know there is rain forecasted and it will turn square, the best way to defy both is to get a lead so big that batting again would not even be in the frame. Lead of 500 and dec I feel. "
Shaheen Shah Afridi is strapping up his spikes now, with his trademark innocuous smile
There's a gully as well
