Sampath chimes in with a rather amazing stat: Only three times a target of 150 or less has been defended successfully in the WPL. Two of those were against the Delhi Capitals.
9:34pm An innings that started off in a quicksand and ended in a bit of a frenzy. But in between, it was dominated by the MI captain. Harmanpreet seemed to bat on a different surface altogether and timed the ball exquisitely. Sciver-Brunt provided support for a bit but apart from that, no one could really complement Harmanpreet, meaning they fall short of the 160-run mark.
Much of the credit has to go to DC as well. Kapp applied the squeeze with the new ball and until the first time-out, they were entirely calling the shots. Then, they appeared a little frazzled as Harmanpreet counter-attacked, and would be disappointed with the 45 runs they conceded in the last five overs, despite dismissing Harmanpreet in the 18th.
The Capitals, given they opted to bowl first and with their batting firepower, will not be too fussed chasing 150. But crazier things have happened in cricket and in finals before, not to mention the bowling pedigree MI have. This should be a cracking chase, and we will be back in about ten minutes for the start of it.
Marizanne Kapp: Just happy to contribute, but will be happier if we chase it down. (Record versus Matthews) She is a brilliant batter, always good to get the top order out. Came off for me tonight. (On the misfield right at the end) Hard to be happy if all three skills do not come off, will be really happy if we chase that total down. The last few finals have not been great for me personally, so really want to win and get over the line. We have played wonderfully in the last few years. (On the outfield) It is lightning quick. At the start, it was not as quick but if you hit it in the gap, it is four.
Pandey to bowl the last over. Over the wicket
Today marks 50 years since India won their only Hockey World Cup. Here's the story of how India won it, in the words of the match-winner in the final - Ashok Kumar, son of Major Dhyan Chand.
