9:02pm The Capitals were inserted into bat, and they have made a pretty fair fist of this gig. Lanning was the star of the show and even though she felt eight short of what would have been the first hundred in this competition, she produced an innings of extraordinary class and quality. The ball flew off the bat and there were several drool-worthy off-side strokes, which, again, is not a huge surprise. She was supported by Shafali at the start and by some shoddy GG fielding throughout the innings.

Speaking of the Giants, they looked a little off the ball in the field. Meghna was their most successful bowler, with Dottin not far behind. They have scored more than 177 at this venue already and they will have to draw on this experience to chase this total down and to keep their hopes of a playoff berth well and truly alive. Join us in a bit for the chase!

Meghna Singh: Feeling very good, was waiting for a long time. Got wickets after a long time, so feeling good. (On what gives her the most happiness) Whatever the team needs, and if you can do that in that situation. The pitch is very good and the ball is coming onto the bat nicely. We wanted to take as much pace off as possible. I have been preparing for this for a long time. I am happy I could give my best (as per my team's requirements). The wicket is nice, if we can play straight and according to the ball, it will be good (for the chase).

Dottin to Bryce, SIX, oh, hello! Where have you been all along, Sarah Bryce?! Right in the slot in and around off stump. Bryce sizes up the line early and gives herself plenty of room. Frees her arms and flays it over point. Bounces right on the boundary cushion, and DC end up with 177!

Bryce in now

Dottin to Lanning, OUT, stumps go splat, and there will be no WPL hundred in this innings! Slower ball on a back of a length on middle and leg. Lanning looks to hack it towards cow corner but makes a complete hash of the stroke. Only connects with fresh air and hears the death rattle soon after. Walks off to a standing ovation, though, and this innings has put the Capitals in a great position!

Dottin to Lanning, FOUR, lovely! And Lanning moves into the nineties! Attempted yorker but Dottin errs on the shorter side on off. Lanning throws her hands at it and carves it over point!

Dottin to Kapp, 1 run, safe! Slower ball on a length on the pads. Kapp swings it away and hits it on the bounce to deep backward square leg

Dottin to Lanning, 1 leg bye, slower ball on a full length on leg stump. Lanning has a huge swipe at it and misses. The ball trickles off the pads for a leg bye. Lanning, unsurprisingly, is not happy at having missed out

Dottin to Lanning, FOUR, call is for two, but that has hurtled into the fence! On a length, pushed into leg stump. Lanning uses her wrists and whips it between long on and deep mid wicket!

Final over coming up. Gardner has refrained from bowling herself at the death tonight, and that continues to be the case. Dottin to bowl. Lanning on strike

Gautam to Kapp, no run, ouch! Zipped in full just outside leg. Kapp moves across, trying to lap it and misses the ball altogether. The ball does not miss Mooney, though, and she cops a blow on the side of the knee, which will not tickle. And amidst all of that, the Capitals have reviewed, arguing it should be a wide. Well, this should not be a wide because if Kapp had stood where she initially was, the ball would have smashed her on the pad. The third umpire agrees, and the non-wide call stays!

Gautam to Kapp, FOUR, miscued but Kapp gets the job done on this occasion! Length on off. Kapp has a huge swing at it and the ball skews off the leading edge over backward point!

Gautam to Lanning, FOUR, what a shot! Trademark Meg Lanning! Full enough and angling into off stump. Lanning peels the outer cover off the ball and caresses it past cover!

Prakash: "Time for the first 100 of the WPL?" -- Not impossible, but Lanning will have to get on a roll here. Gautam to bowl the 19th. GG, according to the innings timer on broadcast, are four minutes behind the over-rate as well

Kanwar to Lanning, no run, given plenty of air on middle and off. Lanning advances, looking to go downtown. Seems to be beaten in the flight, though, and gets a scratch to prevent a stumping

Kanwar to Lanning, FOUR, oh dear - that is sloppy, sloppy work from Litchfield! Dragged down on middle and leg. Lanning hops back and pummels it towards deep mid wicket. The ball bounces a little awkwardly and Litchfield makes a meal of it!

Kanwar to Kapp, 1 run, tossed up full just outside off. Kapp plants her front foot and tugs it towards deep mid wicket

Three overs left. DC will want to make the most of these and not end up with a sub-170 score. Kanwar to bowl. Around the wicket

Meghna Singh to Sutherland, OUT, straight to Dottin at long on! Sutherland perishes! Slower ball on a back of a length on the stumps. Sutherland opens up her stance and hacks it flat to long on. Dottin dives forward and seems to pick it up cleanly. The umpires, though, want to have another look. Seems like the fingers of the right hand are under the ball at all times, and the third umpire agrees with that assessment. Fair catch, and Sutherland has to go!
