7:02pm A strange sort of innings, with DSG never really clicking into over-drive. Stoinis and Williamson, however, have ensured that they have 143 on the board, which is three more than what the Royals got in their previous game at this venue (which they won, by the way). Apart from those two, the rest found it tough going, especially on a surface that was sluggish.

Fortuin, Mujeeb and Wellalage were tidy and excellent as usual. Root's first two overs were also neat but he came in for tap when asked to bowl the 18th. Maphaka, though, was probably the star of the show. He removed King with a searing delivery early before outwitting Klaasen later in the innings with a deceptive slower ball. The Royals will fancy their chances, but DSG will also feel they have something to play with on a surface that is offering enough to the bowlers. Join us in a bit for the chase!

Kwena Maphaka: I was really itching to get a good performance. Had not been performing too well, wanted to put up a good performance for the boys and the team. I have bowled to him a few times in the nets. That (the slower ball) seemed to work, so tried to bowl it (today as well). (On the slower ball) I probably trained that since I was 12 years old, have it down nicely and pleased it came off. (On if the score is chaseable) Definitely, I back the boys (to chase this). We have a great batting line-up and we are yet to lose at home.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Smuts, OUT, wicket to end the innings! Darted in full on off. Smuts swings for the hills and does not really watch the ball. Only swats away a few flies and hears the death rattle soon after. Mujeeb punches the air in delight and this has been another top-class over under pressure by him!

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Stoinis, FOUR, Stoinis gets the boundary he wants! Shortish outside off. Stoinis opens up his stance and smashes it over the bowler's head. Almost a tennis shot!

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Stoinis, OUT, Mulder has been run out by a distance! Back of a length outside off. Stoinis throws his hands at it and slices it towards sweeper cover. Stoinis is hell-bent on the second and calls Mulder through for a second that he would never have completed. The throw is to the bowler's end and is accurate enough, with Mujeeb doing the rest! Well, looks like Stoinis did not ground his bat behind the crease while turning for the second either. This could well be a dot. Oh my, Stoinis was a yard short of his crease when he turned. That might have been intentional too, but Mulder was unaware of what Stoinis had in his mind. Long story short, Mulder was sold down the river, Stoinis and DSG get no runs, but Stoinis is back on strike!

Maphaka to Mulder, 4 byes, sloppy from Dinesh Karthik! Slower bumper that finishes outside off. Mulder swings across the line and misses. The ball bounces in front of Karthik and he makes an absolute mess of his collection. Gotta get something behind the ball, DK!

Maphaka to Klaasen, OUT, Maphaka outwits Klaasen and does him all ends up! Another slower ball, bowled much fuller on the pads. Klaasen thinks he can work this to deep mid wicket but the lack of pace leads to his undoing. Closes his bat face too early and chips it back towards the bowler. Mpahata reacts in time and takes it sharply above his left shoulder. Maphaka is pumped, Klaasen cannot believe what has just happened!

Maphaka to Klaasen, no run, another cutter, bowled shorter. Pitches outside leg again and decks away greatly. Klaasen lets it go and does not get the wide. That was nowhere near being a wide, truth be told

Maphaka to Klaasen, no run, hard length, slanted across the batter. Klaasen goes feeling for it and is beaten by the deviation off the surface. That pitched outside leg and ended up well outside off
