9:14pm A sizzling batting effort, spearheaded by the skipper. Smith did not start off very well and looked very scratchy, especially during the powerplay. But like all great players do, he stuck at it and then owned the big stage. His hitting against pace, in particular, was a sight to behold and he accessed almost every area of the field.

Maxwell then did Maxwell things during the middle overs and while both of them were at the crease, it felt a total in excess of 220 was within reach. Their wickets in quick succession did bring that threshold down, although Mukhtar ensured Washington posted the highest total at this year's MLC.

For the Unicorns, Cummins was the pick of the lot, using his variations and the ground dimensions to his advantage. The rest, though, came in for punishment, with Drysdale and Hassan, both of whom have been impressive this campaign, going the distance. Rauf was not great either and that means the Unicorns' backs are up against the wall. They have the firepower to do it, of course, but can they do it in a final? Join us in a bit to find out!

Pat Cummins: (On plan to Head) Try and bowl a good ball and get him to nick it (smiles). Trying to hit top of off and fortunate he nicked one. It is pretty tough out here when one side is small and the wind is coming through. Tried to make them hit to the longer boundary but they batted well. He (Smith) batted fantastic tonight, did not have too many options (against him). (On what they need to do in their chase) Don't think we need to panic. There are runs to be scored. We scored a big total against these guys not too long ago.
