2:10pm: The match has been called off due to heavy rainfall
"We understand the disappointment this may cause fans, who were eagerly looking forward to today's game. Player safety and the quality of the match experience are our top priorities; unfortunately, the current weather conditions aren't up to playing standards," said Justin Geale, VP of Cricket, Major League Cricket.
Unfortunately, today's much-anticipated game between MI New York and Texas Super Kings at Church Street Park has been canceled due to torrential weather. Both teams have been awarded one point as per ICC standards. The conditions were dark and gloomy on Friday morning and the outfield had already taken a severe hammering from the heavy downpour. Both teams, as well as fans, will be understandably frustrated to miss out on a high-voltage affair between the two star-studded sides. Given the bleak forecast for the rest of the day, staging a game didn't seem realistic due to the absolutely drenched outfield. We've seen quite a few games getting marred by inclement weather at this venue this season and this is the second game that has been called off. Let's hope there won't be more disappointment for fans and players in the remaining tournament. The points table has been updated: Texas Super Kings remain in second place with four points while MI New York are right behind in third position with three points. We look forward to your company tomorrow for the 10th match between Los Angeles Knight Riders and San Francisco Unicorns. For now, it's goodbye without a ball being bowled
