5.06pm 385, will New Zealand be happy after India were 212 for no loss in 26 overs? India were set not just for 400 but even 450 or more at one point when Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got their centuries. A lot of records were at stake - most fours, most sixes etc. - but India's middle order couldn't build on the rapid start. Once the openers got out, New Zealand's quicks employed the slower balls and cutters a lot, the spinners came on in tandem, and got a lot of batters to miscue their shots to the fielders. After Kishan was run-out, Kohli found mid-off and Suryakumar holed out to long-on, it looked like India would even fall short of 375. But Hardik, aided by Thakur, hammered three sixes with his deep-in-the-crease stance to give India 385. Really short boundaries, dew expected later, a quick outfield...I'm not sure at all if this is enough. New Zealand have power hitters but the onus is on their top five to step up and set a platform. Sidharth Monga will start the chase in 40-odd minutes.
Vipul Shah: "Last 5 scores by India, batting first in an ODI - 409/8, 373/7, 390/5. 349/8, 385/9"
Saurabh: "India definitely needs a batter at number 8, Thakur's 25 runs and partnership with Pandya was very important."
