3.40pm Well, there's not a lot to be hanging around for. So let's tie a bow on this international summer, because let's face it, we'll be back on deck soon enough! Matthew Mott has just been talking to Sky, he'll be heading off for India with the World Cup squad tomorrow, ahead of two warm-ups in Guhawati, and then the big curtain-raiser against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 5. Until then, from Miller, Alan, Chandan and the team, thanks for joining us, see you then!

Match abandoned! Wow, Vish clocked umpire Reiffel leaving the field giving it the curtains gesture, and now there are handshakes on the balcony.. it's raining again, and the prospects of a mop-up are just bleak.

How deeply dismal. Just one completed game in this series, and not even a completed innings today ... which is especially disappointing as England looked on course for a monster. Could today have been the first 500-plus total in ODI history? We will never now know!

Sarath : "How can a game be abandoned so quickly. Its only like 15.30 in the afternoon" It seems the damage had been done... I daresay there will be an inquest

Sharath: "After the expectations set in Sri Lanka, this is disappointing." We are banning Andrew Fernando from having any opinion on the events that have just unfolded.

3.20pm There's genuine concern that this match might be about to be abandoned...in fact, it's official!

3.15pm There are puddles under the covers, Vish reckons. "There's someone under the cover trying to dry the water that's got on the pitch..." This doesn't sound entirely promising.

The umpires are wandering out to take a look now.

3.02pm Looks like they've finally got their covers in place, but it took an eternity to get the run-ups at the far end of the ground sorted... it was boggy run-ups that caused the Headingley ODI to be washed out, so that's a concern for the resumption.

Rain stops play ... And with that, it is raining, says Vish... humbug. Off come the players. A chance for Ireland to regroup... after a fashion. And it is bucketing. But I reckon this will pass in a matter of minutes... how damp will it get in the interim though?

The groundstaff have had a bit of a shocker with the covers, which is a concern... still wrestling with the sheets. There might be a bit of water on the pitch, looks like the wind has really picked up too.

They still haven't got the main sheets over the rest of the square... that's bound to be a concern come the mop-up job. But anyway, that's for later. For now, it's clearly a delay. Time for a brew!

Tom G: "I'm in Avonmouth (5 miles west of ground). We had 20-25 minutes of torrential rain but it has stopped now!"

Young to Hain, OUT, Hain has a gallop, cuffs to mid-on! Looking to get a move on, but Young held his length back and Hain couldn't get his levers through the stroke.

SachinVehale : "Considering time left in the England innings, Ben Duckett is a all set to catch up with his ODI career runs in 'single' innings ! Looking scary"

Young to Duckett, 1 run, short, pulled off the eyebrows, not timed out to square leg
30.4
0
Young to Duckett, no run, good delivery, hits the seam and jags late past a wafty back-foot cut

Tom: "Re 29.6, funny how that no longer always applies (it was pretty infallible at one point), not because teams slow down, but because they're often already flying...!"

Young to Duckett, no run, free hit... wide line, clubbed off the toe of the bat, straight at extra cover. And immediately he calls for a new bat

Young to Hain, (no ball) 1 run, nurdled off the legs to the on-side... and a no-ball to add to the woes... Balbirnie hurt himself while flinging out an arm to intercept that... might have jarred his shoulder but he'll be okay

We are due a downpour imminently... which may affect England's 500 ambitions... it won't last long but it may be heavy...
