10:41pm Phew. What a game. And we are still not done. There was drama at the start. there was drama through the middle and there was drama right at the end too. Nissanka, of course, was the star of the show. His majestic hundred left India shell-shocked and onlookers spell-bound, and he very nearly took SL past the finish line. But just when the line was in sight, he perished, and that set the stage for a frenetic ending.
Prior to that, Perera had supported Nissanka wonderfully, rattling his way to a 32-ball 58. The rest of the middle order, namely Asalanka and Kamindu, though, did not turn up and that meant Shanaka had to do a lot of the heavy lifting.
As for India, they were shabby with the ball. Their spinners, however, turned it up towards the end of their respective spells and that put SL in a spot. Rana and Arshdeep also largely held their nerve, but they will now have to pick themselves up and go at it again.
3 off the final ball. Super Over anyone? SKY walks up to his bowler, perhaps wanting to discuss what to bowl. Rinku has run from the off side over to the leg side. Probably into a hot spot to prevent the second. Looks like Dube has been moved over to the off side from deep mid wicket, with Rinku taking that spot now
7 off 2. SL need a boundary here
9 off 3. India in the box seat now perhaps. Shanaka, though, might have other views
Liyanage, playing his first game of the tournament, walks in with SL needing 12 off 5
P Nissanka c Varun b Harshit Rana 107 (103m 58b 7x4 6x6) SR: 184.48
12 needed off 6. Rana to bowl. Rana has been very expensive tonight, but this is his moment to turn things around and become the hero. Nissanka, already the hero for SL, would want to add another chapter to his knock tonight
END OF OVER:19 | 11 Runs | SL: 191/4 (12 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 10.05, RRR: 12.00)
- Dasun Shanaka14 (8b)
- Pathum Nissanka107 (57b)
- Arshdeep Singh4-0-46-1
- Axar Patel3-0-32-0
This has been a top over by Arshdeep so far. All of his T20 experience coming through. India have packed their off-side field, with only three on the leg side
19 off 9
Waqas: "Looks like we might have the super over today!"
23 off 12. Arshdeep will bowl one of these, with Rana bowling the other. Who does SKY turn to for the 19th? Arshdeep it is
Umair: "I'm running out of words to describe Nissanka. What a phenomenal player we have on our hands!"
END OF OVER:18 | 10 Runs | SL: 180/4 (23 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 10.00, RRR: 11.50)
- Pathum Nissanka103 (54b)
- Dasun Shanaka9 (5b)
- Axar Patel3-0-32-0
- Arshdeep Singh3-0-35-1
Looks like Tilak has also injured himself. He is stretching out his left hamstring. Hardik is already off the field. India will hope that is just cramp, rather than anything muscular
33 off 18. Axar to bowl the 18th. Around the wicket
END OF OVER:17 | 9 Runs 1 Wkt | SL: 170/4 (33 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 10.00, RRR: 11.00)
- Pathum Nissanka101 (52b)
- Dasun Shanaka1 (1b)
- Arshdeep Singh3-0-35-1
- Kuldeep Yadav4-0-31-1
DaWolf: "Only 2 boundaries since the start of the 12th over. Nissanka needs someone scoring from the other end. " -- He is waging a lone battle at the moment.
40 off 20, and all of a sudden, SL cannot find any boundaries. Shanaka on strike
PHKD Mendis c Patel b Arshdeep Singh 3 (7m 7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 42.85
40 off 21. Required run-rate inching towards 12
