9.04pm Well, what an extraordinary innings. Rizwan dropped anchor with 88 from 67, and added 97 with Babar, but thereafter, the innings just failed to ignite, at least until Asif Ali finally got a chance to line up Topley in the final over. Self-inflicted damage from Pakistan at times, a lack of flexibility in their middle-order approach. Vish will be here for Part Two imminently.

Danyal Rasool reckons the chants might have been 'Parchi Parchi', a reference to favouritism... but either way, the sense of disquiet was palpable.

Matthew Mott, England's coach: "It's been an amazing experience, a long time coming for the group, amazing facilities, crowds have been amazing and very fair to us. Been some good cricket. Exciting to get games into young players, looking to rotate through a few. Here to win but building depth before the World Cup. Nothing better for a team than young players coming in and doing well straightaway. We've got some great leaders around this group, Moeen's been exceptional stepping in for Jos. Great effort with the ball, happy with 167, especially when not taking wickets up front. They finished with a flourish but we are quietly confident."

James : "I think the thing we've missed most over the last 17 years is the Pakistan crowd. Knowledgeable, and fair. Nothing like it!" So true, delighted that their enthusiasm hasn't been dimmed in the absence of top-level cricket.

6
Topley to Asif Ali, SIX, magnificently battered into the night sky! A huge heave off a good length, high over deep midwicket once more! And Asif Ali has made his point, and the crowd's point, in no uncertain terms!
19.5
1
Topley to Mohammad Nawaz, 1 run, punched to the on-side, good probing work from Topley, demanding the batters put the bat speed through the ball
19.4
1
Topley to Asif Ali, 1 run, slower ball, dipping on the yorker length, punched out to cover
19.3
6
Topley to Asif Ali, SIX, you couldn't make it up! Asif's first ball is a full toss, he's deep in his crease, brutal forearms, pumped over deep midwicket! The Karachi crowd unleash a collective "told you so"
19.2
W
Topley to Mohammad Rizwan, OUT, chipped straight to cover! Rizwan's night is done, a low full toss outside his eyeline, forcing him to reach on the outswinger, Hales dropped one earlier but couldn't fail to pouch that. A fine effort in isolation, but it won't have done much to change the rumblings about strike rates...

Mohammad Rizwan c Hales b Topley 88 (92m 67b 9x4 1x6) SR: 131.34

Asif Ali is the new man... but he's not on strike. The final match of the series, incidentally, will be under the new regulations!

19.1
W
Topley to Khushdil Shah, OUT, a hopeless hack off the good length! Poor chap, on a hiding to nothing out there, a cunning slower ball, perfect line too, Moeen backpedals in the covers and swallows a simple chance

Khushdil Shah c Ali b Topley 2 (5m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Still the Asif chants continue. Penny for Khushdil's thoughts

1
Willey to Khushdil Shah, 1 run, another fine yorker, stabbed out to point

It's fair to say the fans are a touch mutinous at the moment... Matt Roller prefers to call them "knowledgeable". I reckon they are both!

18.5
1
Willey to Mohammad Rizwan, 1 run, blockhole ball, over the wicket, into Rizwan's toes... just another single to long-on
18.4
1
Willey to Khushdil Shah, 1 run, deflected to the leg side to get off the mark

"Asif, Asif, Asif," is the chant ... as Khushdil arrives at the crease. Eyes emoji!

"Huge cheers the second that was given out," says Matt Roller, which tells its own tale. I reckon it might even have done too much ...

18.3
W
Willey to Shan Masood, OUT, inswinging yorker, and plumb! Masood has a massive swing, gets pinned on the back shin, right in front of leg. He's not reviewing that

Shan Masood lbw b Willey 21 (35m 19b 1x4 0x6) SR: 110.52

18.2
2
Willey to Shan Masood, 2 runs, inswinging full toss, but Masood's timing is off as he swings through the pull but plugs it short of Duckett at midwicket
18.1
1
Willey to Mohammad Rizwan, 1 run, very full length, clubbed to long-off as Rizwan makes room to leg

END OF OVER:
18 | 9 Runs | PAK: 146/1 | RR: 8.11

  • Mohammad Rizwan86 (64b)
  • Shan Masood19 (17b)
  • Olly Stone4-0-36-0
  • Reece Topley3-0-23-0

Two to go, and at this rate, 170 feels like riches. Can it be enough? Pakistan will have to bowl well to defend this

17.6
1
Stone to Mohammad Rizwan, 1 run, full length, flashed to the on-side, right up to the toes
17.5
1
Stone to Shan Masood, 1 run, dragged to deep midwicket, solid contact on the pull from Masood but a loud groan as he realises Brook is there to field it
17.4
4
Stone to Shan Masood, FOUR, finds the gap at last! Too short from Stone, and a slower ball too, Masood can hit the gap behind square at leisure
17.3
1
Stone to Mohammad Rizwan, 1 run, into the toes with a hint of swing, clipped with intent to deep midwicket
17.2
1
Stone to Shan Masood, 1 run, full toss outside off, flicked off the legs to backward square. Both men have four fielders back on the leg side
17.1
1
Stone to Mohammad Rizwan, 1 run, big swing off a back-of-a-length, another deflection to backward square

END OF OVER:
17 | 7 Runs | PAK: 137/1 | RR: 8.05

  • David Willey3-0-25-0
16.6
1
Topley to Mohammad Rizwan, 1 run, hitting the pitch outside off, an urgent cuff across the line, but only as far as deep square leg. England have got this innings where they want it for now

Rizwan is now receiving some treatment after that dive for his crease. Hope he hasn't tweaked anything. Looks like his left knee is the problem

16.5
1
Topley to Shan Masood, 1 run, back-of-the-hand slower ball from Topley, very wide as Masood under-edges his cut through to the keeper, then gets a run anyway as Salt shies needlessly at the stumps, to the bowler's audible annoyance
16.4
2
Topley to Shan Masood, 2 runs, hacked off the full length, out to wide long-on, Rizwan dives with urgency to make his ground and seems a bit winded by his landing

Jawad: "Shan Masood has taken 2 overs without scoring a boundary, Riz is doing fine but someone needs to step up"

16.3
2
Topley to Shan Masood, 2 runs, they rush back for two, but Pakistan are in urgent need of boundaries, this time it's Masood with an uncomfortable pull to space at midwicket
