Scorer: K Vairavan | Commentator: Aaditya Narayan
And that's all we have from Dubai tonight, as at the end of match five of this season's ILT20, five teams are on the board already. Tomorrow, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders take on MI Emirates. Do join us for that one. Until then, on behalf of our scorer K Vairavan, this is Aaditya Narayan signing off. Good night!
Johnson Charles is the Player of the Match: I think that we had to adapt to the surface, coming from Sharjah where it was a bit low. This pitch was very good, bit more bounce, which meant a lot more leeway. Just had to make the most of the powerplay, which we did. I just want to keep it going, as we age, we get better, we age like fine wine, so I want to get better. Very important to get good starts in the powerplay, you get on top of the opposition.
Sharjah Warriors captain Tom Kohler-Cadmore: Yeah obviously it's nice to get your first win out of the way. Great to see the boys putting their hands up and winning the game for us. Him (Charles) and Raza played similar innings, made the pitch look way easier than it was. When we got into the middle overs, he wasn't just slogging, he controlled things really nice. Bowled really well, the short boundary made it really hard to defend, we were really happy with 170. We managed to claw it back at the end. Whenever we needed a boundary, Basil Hameed came up clutch for us, it's great to see we've got a full squad of players. I believe we've got 20 guys who can win games for us.
Dubai Capitals captain David Warner: The toss is a key component to this ground. Lots of dew here. We left a few runs out there, myself included. They bowled really well to me in the powerplay. It's always tough when you bat first here. You've got to hope that the bowlers bowl off their lengths. You just saw there with Johnson Charles, that if you execute, then one player can come off. It's unfortunate that Akif missed out tonight, with one short boundary, I thought experienced bowlers could do the job. We bowled way too many bad balls to Johnson.
The Warriors are on the board! Stunning knock from Charles, and then when it was needed, Hameed and Sams struck a couple of crucial blows to keep them ahead of the game at all times. Sams was also superb with the ball alongwith Woakes and Theekshana. But the result wouldn't have been possible with Charles's 93, which singlehandedly carried their top and middle order through, with no contributions otherwise. Gregory struggled for a 25-ball 16, but at least he kept Charles company to let him do his thing, before Hameed and Sams finished it off. The Capitals bowlers struggled though, with the exception of Chameera, who was excellent with figures of 4 for 28. He also ran Guptill out, meaning he was involved in every Warriors dismissal tonight.
13 off 2 overs for the Warriors. Richardson to bowl the 19th. Aborts his run-up first ball, as he sees a fifth fielder in the ring when he only needs four at this stage. Good game awareness from Richardson
END OF OVER:18 | 9 Runs | SW: 158/5 (13 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 8.77, RRR: 6.50)
- Daniel Sams11 (6b)
- Basil Hameed16 (17b)
- Jason Holder4-0-35-0
- Dushmantha Chameera4-0-28-4
