Right, we are ready to go again!

7.45pm Good news! Play will start at 8.00pm. Australia's target is 216 in 43 overs

Kula: "What a start to the WI vs Ban test match.. these simultaneous games should happen so that if there's a rain break fans do not get bored"

Sam: "How does this make sense that Australia need 216 in 43 overs? That's not even a par score." Based on various factors, a key one here is that Australia start knowing the overs they have (does a DLS target ever not cause a debate?)

7.25pm There will be an inspection at 7.45pm. The outfield needs a bit of work (despite all the covers they are able to bring on)

Ranil Herath: "My Sri Lanka Test team reads, Dimuth, Pathum, Kusal, Mathews, DDS, Chandimal, Dickwella, Ramesh, Embuldeniya, Jayawickrema, Kasun. One pacer."

Cricfanatic: "@Ranil In that case, I'd prefer Asitha over Kasun!!"

Ranil Herath: "True, Andrew, my point is Kasun's height might give an advantage to extract some bounce on the flat Galle Pitch." For sure. Hasn't he just picked up a niggle as well, late in the T20Is?

7.20pm Tatenda Mupinyu: "How is it possible Matthew Kuhnemann is appearing in both the ODI and Unofficial Test Match aganist Sri Lanka. A bit confused here." - I can confirm he isn't in two places at once - although that would be pretty cool. He was withdrawn from the A-game yesterday after Ashton Agar's injury.

Still waiting on word of target, overs etc in this game

Luke: "It will most likely be the same team that started the last Test match. The only debate is the second frontline spinner if Kuhnemann continues to impress. Can't see Lyon, one of Swepson/Kuhnemann and Agar all in the XI. Batting wise, really need Head to have a good series as his away record is poor."

Sam: "So much chatter on the probable XI fot the test. Have we forgotten Boland? I'd pick him or Sweepson anyday - not sure why that wasnt done in Pakistan, but he'd make a better pick anyday"

Samriddhi: "Starc is bowling in nets so why cant he play??cannot wait to see him in action and bowl some Starc yorkers" - He still needs his stitches covered on the finger and he can't bowl with the covering on his finger

7.10pm News from the ground is that covers are coming off

Meanwhile, over in Antigua, West Indies will be bowling first against Bangladesh in the opening Test

This looks better...

7.05pm Joshua: "Drop Lyon he bowls a lot and yes keeps things tight but isn't a wicket taking option. Marnus can bowl more and Boland is worth a go, rest/rotate with Hazlewood. Warner Ussie Marnus Smith Head Green Cummins Starc Swepson Boland" Blimey, you are tough crew. First Starc, now Lyon! He has 427 Test wickets.

Neil: "@Drew wasn't Starc one of the leading (if not the leading) wicket taker in the test series in Australia's last tour to SL in 2016" - Indeed. He was magnificent.

Tim: "Why are we ruling the Maxwell option out?? Bailey said people outside the initial Test squad who perform in the limited overs matches or A games can be added. And why wouldn't you back Maxwell to hit 5 fifties in 5 5 ODI innings? If that happens, why shouldn't he get the late call up? Particularly with the record of growing injuries to Aussie bowlers so far this tour…" I just don't think it will happen, that's all. But, yes, you never know. And there could be enough injuries yet!

7.00pm Drew: "Hazlewood and Cummins are first picks for the tests. There is no way Starc is above either - too much inconsistency. If Starc is expensive, then you're left with only one other quick, so in a minimal pace attack, Starc isn't part of that." Did you see Starc in Pakistan? Some outstanding spells of reverse swing. Does remain to be seen how big of a factor that is in Galle, but can't see him missing out. Amazes me, sometimes, how people view his Test record. Entirely your right to think that, of course!

Faiyaz: "Ideally, with everyone fit, I'd go with this if I was an Aussie selector: Warner, Khwaja, Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Green, Carey, Agar, Cummins, Starc, Lyon. Extremely stiff on Hazlewood, but Starc is just a point of difference in this attack, being left arm with the extra pace."

Eye of Sauron: "I think Australia should consider picking Kuhnemann for the first test in place of Swepson. Not because Swepson was less effective vs Pakistan earlier this year but because of the success that Jack Leach has had in the last 3-4 yrs in Sri Lanka. In 5 matches, he has already taken more wickets in Sri Lanka than Lyon, Giles, Boje and even Harbhajan Singh!"

Neil: "In the test series, I think it would be good to see Ramesh Mendis contribute more with the bat - he has a highest score of 33 in his short test career so far. He has a triple century in FC cricket (albeit the quality is somewhat diluted) so hopefully he can translate some of this into the test series and provide some stability in the tail!"

6.55pm Mr Silly: "Interesting to see how Aus lineup in the tests, Cummins will play and Starc will certainly have his place set after the last series, Hazlewood missing out again if they play 2 spinners? Definitely agree Marnus should be bowling more" Yep, Hazlewood the quick to sit out if others are fit

abhishek: "Sri Lanka already have three spinners in Embuldeniya, Jaywickrama and Ramesh Mendis they can add kamindu Mendis."

Zohaib: "Considering that Australia performed beyond their expectations in Pakistan and actually won the test series, we can say they have fair chance of qualifying for WTC final. How many of the 6 tests in Asia (2 here in SL and 4 in India) do they need to win to ensure their spot in WTC? " - I'm afraid that maths is beyond me! Given they have two against West Indies that you back them to win, the home series against South Africa (who are up there in the table) could be important.

Tim: "Here's the best Australian Test XI that I can see: Khawaja, Warner, Labuschagne, Smith (vc), Maxwell, Green, Carey (wk), Agar, Starc, Cummins (c), Lyon" - Someone else with the Maxwell option! Think we can rule that out.

James: "Khawaja, Warner, smith, labuschange, marsh, green, Carey, starc, lyon, agar, hazlewood for me " - You seen to have dropped the captain, which is probably going to be controversial

6.50pm While we wait, how about we cast our minds forward. These ODIs are important games, but it's the two Tests that conclude the tour that have more meaning - WTC points and all. How do we think the two sides could line-up? Any names Sri Lanka should be looking at to bring? There is some talk Australia could play three frontline spinners; my view is they should make more use of Marnus Labuschagne's legspin but it will be interesting to see. Cameron Green certainly gives them options.

mnsh: "In the SLC official Youtube channel feed, they've started to remove covers..." Fingers crossed

6.45pm Arun: "Is it still raining out there?" Yep. No updates yet. Gnasher will step into commentary. Hello, folks, and so we wait. Now we've been off an hour you are suspect that will be the end of Sri Lanka's innings, but that's not official so don't quote me!

Dasitha: "Rain came at a bad time for Sri Lanka.. These two were building a partnership and could've gathered another 10 to 15 runs in next 12 balls.. But now they'll only get about 3 to 5 runs in DLS calculation if they can't complete the innings due to the rain.. " Don't think Sri Lanka are a million miles away from a score that could challenge on Australia on this surface, but Hasaranga is a big loss

While we wait for the rain to clear, why not catch up on the drama of recent days at Trent Bridge and that remarkable chase by England. Osman Samiuddin has tried to make sense of it all

6.20pm Still no update from the ground. We've lost 32 minutes so far.

6pm Rain has settled in for the moment. We'll keep you updated with any news from the ground. For now, we sit and wait.

5.48pm Rain has stopped play. The covers are coming on. The players head off. The clouds had been looming and it's raining solidly. We'll see how long this lasts.
