When the first innings started, the blustery conditions made it look like 260 might be a par score. Hope started well but was careful. As the sun burst through, Mayers started to open up. His batting was superb and he was particularly harsh on Kingma. Brooks came in at the fall of Hope's wicket and powered a partnership of 184 runs with Mayers. Mayers started to hit out after reaching his ton and it seemed like a total of 350 was within reach. Brooks could only score 18 runs after Mayers was dismissed.
