Tim Southee with the new ball. He has three slips and a gully in place. Let's play...

Predictably, New Zealand have asked Bangladesh to bat again.

Mark B: "3 days to play, 395 run lead. If I'm Latham I would be tempted to try and break the record of biggest win in terms of runs, which currently sits at 675..."

Frankie: "As great as it would be to see Rosco score a ton in his final innings of test cricket, it would suck for him to go out on a home test series loss to Bangladesh. So with some rain on the forecast over the next couple of days, I vote to enforce the follow-on."

Meanwhile Bangladesh batting coach Ashwell Prince lamented the batting collapse of his side and wanted his side to be "decisive" in whatever they do.

Devon Conway continued his dream run with another Test hundred, his 3rd in just his 5th Test. Sampath Bandarupalli with the statistical highlights of the day:

Trent Boult became just the fourth New Zealander to take 300 Test wickets when he bowled Mehidy Miraz yesterday. Here's Mohammad Isam capturing Boult's thoughts:

Before we head any further, let's take a look back on the reaction from day 2.

10:35 am local: New Zealand have bounced back in style after a shock loss in the opening Test and have the visitors on the mat after just two days of the Christchurch Test. After racking up a massive 521/6 they declared and promptly bowled the Bangladeshis out for just 126 in their first innings at stumps on day 2. The interesting thing is whether Tom Latham will enforce the follow-on today morning. Hello and a warm welcome to one and all.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So we go to sleep with the suspense of whether Latham enforces the follow-on tomorrow or not. There is a case to be made either way - not least when considered it could be Taylor's final Test innings if they bat - as with three full days left, a result should be up rather soon. Until then, it is goodnight and goodbye from Ranjith, Srivathsa and me, Himanshu!

Gautam : "Ohhhooo.. that was a roller coaster ride...now comes dilemma, if you want to give rest to your bowlers or want to go for glory!"

Ali Nawaz Khan: "Latham really has a tricky decision to make here. A lead of 395, end of the day, relatively fresh attack but on the other hand we want Ross Taylor for one last time."

Here's Boult speaking after that milestone: "300 Test wickets means a lot... An exclusive club with big names there. Tough to get a membership there! We used the pace and the bounce there today. Look forward to tomorrow. The wind suits outswing and inswing [here at the Oval]... We batted extremely well. For the boys to put 500-plus is really special. But still a lot of work to be done."

6.28pm That is stumps, and Boult leads his side back off the field, having nabbed 5 for 43 to facilitate a massive lead of 395 runs. The ball hooped around at will for Boult, Southee and Jamieson, as Bangladesh folded up for 126, which was almost inevitable once they were reduced to 27 for 5. Just two batters got into double figures for the visitors - 55 for Yasir and 41 for Nurul - and with the nine others contributing just 28 all together.

Boult to Shoriful Islam, OUT, stumps knocked back, and that is five for Boult! His ninth Test five-for. Boult pitches it full and straight on middle and off, with a hint of swing away from the batter at the last moment. Shoriful played forward with the full face of the bat - perhaps he wanted to drive aerially when I look at that bat position - but the ball ended up crashing into off stump

Boult to Shoriful Islam, no run, swing and a miss! Pretty full ball and just outside off, as Shoriful has a heave to the on side but is beaten

Jamieson to Ebadot Hossain, no run, sharp bounce there! The ball is pretty full and a touch wide of off, as Ebadot tries to drive with the full face of the bat but misses, as the ball passes his outside edge

Mark: "It's only day 2. For the fans, NZ should bat again"

Jamieson to Ebadot Hossain, no run, bangs it in short and a little wide of off. Ebadot stays away

Ebadot is the last man in. Jamieson over the stumps.

Jamieson to Yasir Ali, OUT, backs away, and finds the man at deepish midwicket! He tried to made room to that short of a length ball on middle and leg, and ended up pulling off the toe end of the bat. Mitchell there has to go low to try and grab that, especially with the sun beating down his eyes. Good take there, and that brings an end to a very confident-looking innings from Yasir

Yasir Ali c Mitchell b Jamieson 55 (160m 95b 7x4 0x6) SR: 57.89

All set to resume now

Aveir: "Going back to the crazy inswinger from Boult a couple overs ago, Shoriful at the non-striker fist bumped Boult because that ball was just that good! Scenes!"

Jamieson to Yasir Ali, no run, another short of a length ball, but this is on leg. Yasir goes tapping at that, but seems to have hurt his fingers there. His right index finger seems to have been banged by the pace, and he is struggling there. The physio is out to have a look, and there is now a bandage that is being wrapped around his hand now
40.2
0
Jamieson to Yasir Ali, no run, short and wide of off, and that is too far from him to have a go. Lets that pass, as the keeper takes it high to his right

Ankur: "Yasir Ali looks like a solid batsmen... Something for Bangladesh to invest into..."

Boult to Yasir Ali, 5 runs, he had him in trouble there with that snorter! Boult bangs it in short on middle, and has Yasir hopping and skipping in the crease to push that aerially to the off side. There is then an overthrow at the bowler's end, and that is four extra runs
39.5

Boult to Yasir Ali, no run, short again, and pitching outside leg. He pulls, but that is pretty far from him, and so the ball is collected by the keeper

Stays around the stumps to Shoriful

Jamieson to Yasir Ali, 1 run, fifty for Yasir, his first in Tests. Short of a length ball on leg stump, as he tries to pull but gets that off the bottom of the bat

Jamieson to Taskin Ahmed, OUT, taken by Young tumbling to his right! Taskin went swinging at that fullish ball on middle and off, and sent that sailing in the sky. Young at midwicket has to wait a while before the twirling ball settles into his hands and gifts Jamieson his first wicket

Taskin Ahmed c Young b Jamieson 2 (6m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Boult to Taskin Ahmed, 2 runs, leading edge, but lands far from the man running toward mid-off. And guess what, there is a run-out chance at the bowler's end. The throw arrived at Boult, who parried the ball back on to the stumps, but Taskin was home. And before that, he tried to clip that fullish ball on middle and off, but got a leading edge

Boult to Taskin Ahmed, no run, this one shapes away, and beats the outside edge. The ball is again on that teasing good length in the corridor, as Taskin tries to have a push but misses

Taskin in now. Boult from over the wicket.

W
Boult to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, OUT, bowled him! Boult has his 300th Test wicket. He gets the red cherry to show it off to the crowd at the Oval. Boult darted one in on a good length while pitching it outside off from around the stumps, as the ball angled in a touch to hit Mehidy's off stump. Mehidy's bat there was on middle while he was almost crouching to tap at that
