"I didn't bowl as well as I could have done," Sophie Ecclestone tells Adam Collins on Sky. "I got a bit of drift this morning. Attacking the stumps and keeping them in play is a massive thing for me. It's a bit colder and windier but the seamers will want to bowl in this weather. I think it's nice to have the option [to enforce the follow-on]. Nice to get a smile on [Brunt and Shrubsole's] faces."

Akash Singhal: "The temperament of the Indian batters is really questionable, and it has been happening time and again. The ODI World Cup final against England was also lost due to such a collapse. Some serious thinking needs to be done here." -- Is the issue temperament, or just a lack of depth in the middle and lower order?

Avinash: "Disappointing batting from India after that emphatic opening partnership. May be a better effort in the second innings."

Just to reiterate, the follow-on can be enforced when a team leads by 150+ runs in a four-day match, rather than the 200+ that we see in five-day games.

And the news from the middle is that England have enforced the follow-on. Big call, but I think it's the right one with some rain due later today. That means Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana will resume their opening partnership in 10 minutes' time.

Shrubsole to Goswami, OUT, cleans her up! Another hooping inswinger which is too good for Goswami. Slightly tighter to the stumps, perfect seam position angled towards leg slip, and it swings late, through the gap between bat and pad as Goswami shapes to drive

J Goswami b Shrubsole 1 (6m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

Shrubsole to Goswami, no run, hoops in towards the right-hander from a wide line, left alone

Shrubsole will share the new ball. Goswami marks out two guards, leg and middle. Short leg in.

Sandip Nanda: "Why Goswami is batting at number11? Was she injured? She was world number one all-rounder once, has 25 average in 10 tests, a senior experienced player, can't digest why she is at eleven.Anyway all the best team India, fight it out.." -- Not injured, just that all of India's bowlers can bat. Plus, Pandey was a nightwatcher last night.

Brunt to Vastrakar, OUT, what a beauty! This is not far away from being unplayable. Perfect seam position, angling away from the bat. Angles in from over the wicket, pitches on leg stump, then nips away sharply to kiss the top of off stump, removing a single bail. Exquisite new-ball bowling from Brunt and India are nine down!

P Vastrakar b Brunt 12 (42m 33b 3x4 0x6) SR: 36.36

The new ball is due. India waited eight overs to take it in the first innings but it looks like England are going to take it immediately. Yep, new ball taken. The groundstaff are lurking pitchside. 17 needed to avoid the follow-on. Two slips and a gully
