Mohit: "Sri Lanka were in a similar position in the Premadasa Test against India in 1997. We all know what happened next!" -- We need no reminding.

Sumon: "Baffled by BD's approach really. If they had a declaration before lunch in mind, why didn't they start slogging a lot earlier? The way Mushi batted, it seemed they were planning to bat into the second session as well!"

11.17am Wow. Bangladesh have declared! That came out of the blue, Mominul emerging from the dressing room and gesturing to his batsmen to come back. Just over half an hour of batting for Sri Lanka to do before lunch. Bangladesh have scored 67 runs in 18 overs today, for the loss of three wickets.

The new ball has certainly done a bit for Sri Lanka's fast bowlers today, and Bangladesh will hope it will stay that way when they bowl. There's a little more turn today too than we'd seen earlier, and Bangladesh have two experienced spinners in Taijul and Mehidy.

MVT Fernando to Taskin Ahmed, (no ball) 1 run, whoops, a high full-toss, easily chest-high. Looks to bowl the slower ball and it slips out of his hand. Pulled from just outside off stump through square leg
172.5

MVT Fernando to Taskin Ahmed, no run, bouncer outside off, looks to make room and carve it away but it bounces too high for him to genuinely attempt the shot

MVT Fernando to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, back of a length, angling across to off stump, lets it come on and steers through point
172.3
1
MVT Fernando to Taskin Ahmed, 1 run, length ball outside off, and again Taskin clears his leg and smacks a flat-bat drive to mid-off. And the ball has bounced awkwardly off the edge of the square to hit the fielder, Karunaratne, on the left side of his chest. Ouch!

MVT Fernando to Taskin Ahmed, no run, full, close to off stump, clears his front leg and drives along the ground to mid-off

PW Hasaranga to Taskin Ahmed, no run, quick wrong'un finishing on an off-stump line. Not sure he picked it, but he hurriedly jabbed at it and kept it out without really moving his feet

PW Hasaranga to Taskin Ahmed, FOUR, now it's Taskin's turn to play the slog-sweep. Chances his arm despite deep midwicket being back on the boundary, and he manages to put it just far enough from his reach as he dives to his left

PW Hasaranga to Taskin Ahmed, no run, length ball floated across to off stump, doesn't turn as much as Taskin expects as he presses forward to defend. Thick inside edge rolls wide of slip

Stays over the wicket to Taskin. Slip and short leg.

PW Hasaranga to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, full on middle stump, clipped away to the right of long-on

PW Hasaranga to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, tossed up outside off, and out comes the reverse-sweep now. Can't connect, however

Midwicket goes back onto the ropes now.

PW Hasaranga to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR, shot. He plays the slog-sweep so well. Tossed up, lands on a good length outside off, and he's hitting against the turn, but he gets down low, open at the hips, and hoicks it away over midwicket

Wanindu Hasaranga returns to the attack. Slip and leg gully in place for Mushfiq.

Taskin Ahmed walks out at No. 9. He bats left-handed too.

MVT Fernando to Taijul Islam, OUT, length ball in the corridor, and Vishwa gets his fourth wicket. Taijul wasn't looking very convincing out there, and he goes for a drive away from his body and only manages a thin nick through to Dickwella. The ball may have straightened just a hint after pitching

United_Em: "That Mehidy wicket doesn't happen without Dickwella. He sold the umpire a dummy the first time. He made his captain burn a review the 2nd time (possibly frustrating Mehidy too). And got em on the third!" -- He's definitely in that class of player who "makes things happen".

Lakmal to Mushfiqur Rahim, 4 byes, back of a length, angling a long way down the leg side, maybe some inward movement took it there. Mushfiqur can't put bat to ball with his flick, and it's too far from Dickwella for him to even attempt a dive

Lakmal is good to go again.

George Macpherson: "Bangladesh have allowed Sri Lanka back into the game with those two quick wickets. It's now up to the tailenders to put some runs on the board to get the total to around 550."

Lakmal seems to have landed awkwardly on his left foot there and now has his shoe and sock off while the physio runs in to check it. They take drinks, meanwhile.
