2.46pm Welcome back, we're ready for the chase. Ireland have Stirling and Balbirnie, their best batters, opening again. They'll want to be at least halfway as dominant as South Africa's opening stand. It is a good pitch. Keshav Maharaj is opening with the ball. Slip in place. Long-off is back.
Pranshu: "Malan scored 71 off his last 33 deliveries, talk about acceleration"
Karthik Arumugam: "Take nothing away from South Africa or Malan or Qdk but Rassie Klassen Andile Bavuma combined effort is 42 runs of 40 balls. Just not good enough firepower in the middle order for South Africa."
Irfan: "I think we're going to witness something spectacular this afternoon, I just don't see Ireland losing this series."
Hashir: "No batter has scored more runs in an innings than Malan today at a lower strike rate than him. He also has the lowest strike rate for a 150 score by a South African. A bit bittersweet perhaps?" -- Maybe, but he's helped put South Africa in a really strong position.
2.17pm South Africa finish on an imposing 346, but some credit to the Ireland quicks for not letting them cross 350. Superb innings from Quinton de Kock, who breezed away to 120 off 91 balls, and Janneman Malan, who batted through the innings to finish unbeaten on 177 off 169. Since reaching his hundred, he's made 77 off 43 balls.
It's going to be an extremely difficult task for Ireland to chase this and pull off a series win, but their top order is definitely capable of taking this game right down to the wire. We'll see how they go very very soon.
Fine leg drops back.
