Stirling and KOB have come out to open. Seam to start with, in the shape of Naveen-ul-Haq. Third man and fine leg out in the deep, with two slips in place
Thomas Scott: "Ireland have used 8 bowlers, is that a record?" --- One short of the Celine Kuwait: "Let's see how the Chief Tormentor (courtesy: Roller) troubles Ireland now!"
2.32 pm We aren't far away from the resumption of play here in Abu Dhabi
2.07 pm So there you have it. Afghanistan, in the end, put up an imposing total thanks largely to Rashid Khan. Gurbaz and Ahmadi appeared to have set the platform for a 300+ total as openers, but the efforts of Andy McBrine in the middle would have raised Irish visions of restricting Afghanistan to a total around 240 or so, perhaps even bowl them out for 230! However, Gurbaz with a fantastic century on debut -- he fell when in sight of perhaps even going past Desmond Haynes' ODI record for most runs in his first game -- and then Rashid Khan's pyrotechnics mean Afghanistan must be counted as favourites at the break.
We'll be back with the Ireland chase shortly
Naveen faces up for the last ball
Rashid Khan run out 55 (40m 30b 2x4 5x6) SR: 183.33
Sharat Verma: "17 sixes by Afg batsmen this innings. What's the record in an ODI for maximum sixes in an innings?" --- No, far from the record
Yella: "Debutant makes a century and Rashid is whacking the ball. Ireland did not put enough pressure after taking 5 wickets in a trot. I am disappointed at how Afghanistan is taking away the game. "
