9:20pm The Gladiators, as has often been the norm this season, began wonderfully, with Dabare and Mendis taking full advantage of the field restrictions. Dabare, in particular, was superb as he took over the scoring mantle, allowing his skipper more time to settle in. Mendis then joined hands with Udara and the pair ensured the momentum was not lost in the middle. The decisive knock, however, came from Shafiq's blade. He came in and scored 58 off 33 balls, with Mendis doing his bit at the other end, notching up a 49-ball 72.
The Stars, meanwhile, would be ruing their lack of penetration. They never seemed capable of breaking the game open, and that allowed the Gladiators to get away to 193. That said, there is plenty of dew on the ground and bowling will not be easy in the second innings. It won't be a straightforward chase but the Stars are not completely out of it either. Do join us in a bit for the run-chase!
