5.30pm Thank you for your presence with us this evening as we say goodbye. The next game takes place two days later at the same ground and we'll see you then.

That gives Afghanistan a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Ireland had got off to a healthy start with the bat before they went slightly off track in the middle overs. But Harry Tector helped them finish on a good score before Afghanistan hit back through their own openers and then Shinwari and Najibullah Zadran. The pair added 63 in just over seven overs to help push the score, and that is what made the difference

5.22 pm Match has been called off. Afghanistan win by 11 runs on DLS method

Meanwhile, Naveen-ul-Haq wants to start a pace bowling revolution in his country. What are your thoughts about him?

Naveed: "At least it is finally sunny in England!!!" -- That's great news, but only if all of today's matches were held there!

5.17pm The rain has got much heavier now and the restart seems ever more unlikely.

Rafi: "What is DLS par score at this moment?" -- It's 122, Rafi. Afghanistan are 11 runs ahead of the par score.

Vinod Rajpal: "Rain in Afghan vs Ireland match in India, Rain in Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe match.....Any update on Srilanka vs Windies match weather to start in next 2hrs ??" -- Unfortunately, rain is expected later tonight in that part of the world too.

Ben: "I hope you've given Jon a 'Stern' warning" - Hope he's reading without being stern

5.04 pm The drizzle has not yet ceased and the covers remain on

Jon: "Afghanistan slight favourites from here, but the wicket and a new batsman in puts Ireland back in there and it would be harsh if they were to lose this to Duckworth, Lewis, and the other guy..." -- I'm surprised you don't know that famous "other guy" who has a say in match results.

Naveed: "If the match ends here it is a tough one for man of the match between Rashid and Zadran, both played really well and helped Afghanistan get into a winning position." -- quite true, Naveed. Tough choice there.

Naveed Shirzay : "That's the real Shenwari for you. Samiullah and Asghar Afghan do not deserve to play in this young side. I know we need a couple of experienced players but these two do not even experience because their quality is below the national side."

Shane: "What DLS score?" -- It is 122 for 5 at this stage. Afghanistan are 11 runs ahead of the DLS par

END OF OVER:

  • George Dockrell1 (1b)
  • Shapoor Zadran4-0-39-1
  • Rashid Khan4-0-22-3

3.32pm Ireland have scored 172, a solid total, but 22 less than the average first-innings T20I scores at the venue. If it wasn't for Rashid's spell, Ireland would've been closer to the 200-run mark. An off day for Mujeeb, Shapoor and Gulbadin.

Stirling's half-century set the base, O'Brien was fairly brutal too, but a lack of power from the middle order meant Ireland could not capitalise on the start. We'll be back in 10 minutes with the chase...

Shapoor Zadran to Simi Singh, 1 run, OUT, full, on leg stump, and clipped to deep midwicket. They want the second, but the throw is flat, and it looks like the batsmen at the keeper's end is short. The slide from Singh was good, and the bat is inside the crease, but it's in the air and therefore not grounded

Simi Singh run out 4 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 133.33

Final over of the innings. Another 15 will make Ireland very happy

Shapoor Zadran to Tector, 1 run, switch hit to end the over. Full on leg stump, but he changes the grip to try and go over cover point. Clears the infield, but there's protection in the deep

Zahid: "Ireland is pretty happy with the score in the end of 17th over. They should get around 175 which will be a good score because they have a strong bowling unit. "

GJ Delany b Shapoor Zadran 9 (10b 1x4 0x6) SR: 90.00

17.2
1
Shapoor Zadran to Tector, 1 run, full, on off, and he wants to loft it over the infield. Does it successfully, but not as powerfully. They take just one

Shah Safeer: "Rashid Khan is doing pretty good but still needs to perform against stronger sides. I hope he hasn't forgot his CWC19 nightmare "
