South Africa join New Zealand and Australia as WTC champions. Three winners in three editions. Been quite a ride given they sent a second-string team to New Zealand a year ago. They've won nine Tests under Temba Bavuma's captaincy without a defeat. They were behind the game in the final for two days but turned things around remarkably yesterday. Markram and Bavuma ensured tragedy didn't strike like it has in the past - lest we forget, the men and women made ICC finals just last year - to end a 27-year drought. Thanks for joining in and being part of it. It's goodbye from me, Ekanth, and the comms folks Ashish Pant, Alex Malcolm, and Abhimanyu Bose, our scorers, Ranjith P, Venkat Raghav, Andrew Miller, who was on the live blog, and everyone from the Cricinfo team.
Match report by Andrew McGlashan: Markram delivers WTC glory to end South Africa's history of heartbreak
Graeme Smith can't stop smiling. Shaun Pollock goes shakes Maharaj's hands, has a jovial word in Markram's ear. Bavuma holds the mace in one hand and his son in another.
He goes up to the stage and collects the mace, lowers it before raising it triumphantly with cheers and smiles from all of his team-mates standing behind. Lots of dancing among the crowd, it's starting on the stage too. There's singing, jumping among players and support staff. Coach Shukri Conrad comes on, sticks his tongue out cheekily, soaks it in and passes the mace onto Markram who lifts it. Rabada's left, Oh KG Rabada being sung on stage. They walk across behind the Champions tag, Bavuma mimics gunshots off the back of the mace and the champagne's popped! Players and support staff take turns in holding the mace aloft, the celebrations will continue as they go across for a lap and lots of pictures.
Temba Bavuma, South Africa captain: It's been a special couple of days, at some points it felt like we were in SA. We prepared hard, we came in with a lot of belief and lot of doubters, glad we played well. Special moment for us and people back home, probably will sink in in a couple of days. The energy was there, I think us as a team have been wanting this. We've been relentless, getting to the doorstep consistently and experienced heartache, the sun's been with us. Hopefully, this win is one of many. KG is a massive player, a couple of days ago I went to the Hall of Fame inductees, I think he'll be on there in a few years. Came into the game under controversy and did what he did. Aiden is unbelievable, people have questioned his place, but he has character. He played in true Aiden fashion, he and Rabada have carried the character. We got ourselves into the final, there were doubters on the route we took, this win squashes that. Here's an opportunity for us as a nation, divided as we are, to unite. You can be rest assured we'll celebrate as one.
South Africa's players now come up to collect their medals, huge cheers from the crowd at the start and then at the announcement of each player. Loudest for Rabada. At least it was till Bavuma. He gets a rendition of "Oh Temba Bavuma" too
Pat Cummins, Australia captain: Things can change quickly, but it was a bridge too far. Few things we didn't do right. Didn't bat out the opposition after a decent first-innings lead. SA didn't give us a chance in the fourth innings. There are concerns in the top-seven, guys have performed well in the last two years. Bowlers did well in the first two days. We gave everything a chance, Lyon bowled particularly well but didn't get a wicket. Aiden and Temba didn't give us a chance. SA showed why they're here and are deserved winners, they kept themselves in the game throughout. It's the pinnancle, I love Test cricket. Huge achievement to make the final, one-game shootout is a spectacle, didn't end up on the right side but it's been a great week.
Time for the presentation, Stuart Broad places the mace on the podium. Umpires get their momentos before Australia's players come in to collect their runner-up medals.
Aiden Markram, POTM: Haven't scored more important runs. Weird how things worked out after a duck in the first innings. Need a bit of luck, spent some time in the middle and find runs, glad things worked out. Reception will stick out. Lord's is the place every Test cricketer wants to play. To play a final here is incredibly special. Plenty of SA fans who've made through, plenty at home too, it's one of the most special days. (Maintaining tempo in the second inns after going into the shell in the first) It's always one side of the sword - to absorb, but when you look at the wicket and quality of the bowling, you have x amount of balls to face and have to be try and maximise scoring off those balls. Lyon's one of the best, have had plenty of banter, if this went to day five and it kept spinning, he'd have been a handful. (Asking Temba to stay during injury) To be honest, a lot of it came from him. He's led us from the front for the last two-three years. He didn't want to walk off the field yesterday, found a way to score really important runs, played an innings lot of people will remember.
Ryan Rickelton: Walking out in the fourth innings was always going to be tricky. The wicket trying to look a little better. The guys batted brilliantly. Aiden's was one of the best innings I have ever seen. The magnitude of the occasion against such an experienced attack was special. [Talk in the morning] I was out but I was pretty calm. The group was pretty confident. We wanted to absorb the pressure early and then take it forward. There were a few nerves.
Kagiso Rabada speaks to big cheers: Can't describe in words how I feel. Extremely happy, we've planned well and worked hard. We deserve to be here. People said we haven't faced strong oppositions which is rubbish. We beat Australia this time, had to be on our A game. Thanks to everyone for the support, last four days felt like a home game.
Shukri Conrad: [Emotions] Mine are worse that Kesh. I am ecstatic for the guys. This is for SA. To be able to delivery this is truly special. We got the best of the batting conditions. 280 was always going to be a stiff task. But the two pros Aiden and Temba stood tall and took us through. I was the one who said Temba shouldn't bat [after the injury] but the partnership was critical, and they know better than the coaches.
A teary Keshav Maharaj: It's special, it's an honour to lift the cup for everyone out here and back home. It's what the country's about, the unity among everyone in the last five days. We're very grateful, as a team as a nation, as a proud country. I think the emotions would've spurred me into the right direction had I got into bat. (Message to fans back home) Thanks to everyone who's been supporting us, through adversity we've stood strong. We honour those who've come before us, may this be a stepping stone for greater things to come.
Lungi Ngidi: I am speechless right now. The other evening with that spell was about to break the game opening. The excitement kept me going. I can't say much now. I am very proud of what the boys have achieved. It's been a lot of emotions and the blood pressure is quite high.
Marco Jansen: Don't know what to say, was sitting there praying, luckily we got the job done. Lot of nerves in the changeroom, lot of guys quiet, but to have the crowd cheering every single run, can't ask for more. Markram un-frickin-believable, him and Temba took us home. Stuff dreams are made of.
Handshakes now among the players of both teams in the long room. Big smiles on Ngidi and Markram's faces.
David Bedingham: Amazing. Very nervous, but the way Aiden and Temba went about made us calm. Thank goodness we got over the line. The sun plays a massive factor, we got luckier of the conditions. It's been 27 years and I am so thankful we got over the line.
Kyle Verreynne: I am just relieved. I was watching in the morning and kept thinking I don't want to bat, I don't want to bat. When I walked in the middle, I was the most nervous I have ever been. [Win] Means a lot. You can listen to the whole ground singing. Probably getting a little emotion now. It's incredible.
Fuad: "After so many years of efforts, finally it's come home for SA!"
Kumar : "Trend of first time winners continuesâŠ."
Dileep: "Stop cutting those onions, Cricinfo! "
12:47pm: Hugs among the players, families and everyone in the balcony, Bavuma's stoic though. They needed 69 on the final day and Aiden Markram, centurion from last night, shouldered responsibility on a track that helped the bowlers more than it did yesterday. Cummins dismissed Bavuma early, Stubbs' defence was tested, he couldn't tick along but weathered the first hour. Markram found ways to turn strike regularly. Bedingham then got runs with Australia rotating their bowlers. They burnt all three reviews, Markram fell with six runs to get, Verreynne finished the game.
Crowd builds up again, can they do it now?

shernawaz: "Almost each player of this SA squad has grown up seeing their team losing in the semis and finals, today is big moment of their life making their country proud by winning this great championship."
"I hope that it continues to inspire our country," says South Africa's victorious captain
