12.30pm And that will be lunch. Excellent control from Australia's bowlers to keep India playing their defensive shots as much as possible with not too much help available from the pitch. Lyon was sensational through that session, working his pace variations so well and never giving the batters a moment of mental rest. That shot from Rishabh Pant, which will be debated long and hard, opened up things for Australia after a quiet first half hour or so, and they got the wicket of Jadeja thereafter. All three of India's allrounders have looked good, Reddy particularly so, but at least one of them will need to get to a big score if India are to stay in this game.
The follow-on mark, 275, is just 31 runs away now, but it isn't that significant here compared to Brisbane where we lost a lot of time to weather. For India to stay in this game, and even have a chance of saving it, they'll need to narrow that deficit a lot, lot more.
Sudhakar: "Nathan Lyon plays such a huge role in this Aussie attack. He can hold one end up, give the much needed rest to the fast bowlers and chip in with crucial wickets. Truly a GOAT." -- The thing is, the "holding" job and quiet overs don't come from defensive bowling, but testing the batters' defence ball after ball, which is why Australia can play a four-man attack in these conditions. They can trust him not only to bowl long spells and keep things quiet but also ask questions constantly and pick up wickets.
Ruthwik: "I guess this settles the debate on picking Nitish. The debate should be about why is Rohit playing instead of Gill" -- The Reddy debate isn't about whether he has batting ability - which he has in spades - but what he's bringing to the table with the ball. Are India leaving themselves a bowler short if he's batting at No. 7, with two other allrounders at 6 and 8?
