3pm So, another session that should have outright belonged to West Indies. Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales were electric in the first hour, taking five wickets for 40 runs. Joseph bagged his third Test five-for, in his first match at home. But then, Piedt and Burger put on a resistance that looked set to go on till tea. Piedt counter-attacked and Burger didn't shy away from a few shots either. They added 63 runs for the last wicket, frustrating West Indies and taking South Africa past 150, a prospect that did not look very likely at one point. But Motie finally got his first wicket of the series to wrap the innings up. West Indies will begin their innings once the tea break ends. Join Suds for the start of the third session of what's already looking to be an exciting Test match.
And while you wait, you can read this interview that Nagraj Gollapudi did with the man of the moment, Shamar Joseph, before West Indies' tour of England last month.
Here's a stat nugget from Sampath: South Africa's 160 all-out is the second-lowest total in men's Tests where five or more batters scored 20 or more runs (Where all ten batters got out). Lowest is 136 all-out by India against Australia at Eden Gardens in 1956.
Another nugget from Sampath: 39.38 % of South Africa's total was accounted by the tenth wicket partnership between Piedt and Burger. It is the second-highest for South Africa in men's Tests, behind the 41.77 % by Maharaj and Paterson vs England in 2020, who added 99 out of 237.
