4.36 pm: That's the end of an absolutely fascinating day of Test cricket. The Indian bowlers were expected to lord it over the South Africans, but Keshav Maharaj and Vernon Philander stole the limelight. India are still leading by 326 runs, but whether or not they enforce the follow-on will be known tomorrow. They might not want to, just to give their bowlers some extra hours to recover. We'll be back tomorrow, don't forget to join us then.

Keshav Maharaj: It's (shoulder) very sore. Yesterday I dived on it so lot of bruising. But hopefully I'll be fine for the rest of the series. (On his partnership with Philander) Vernon and I said to ourselves that we'll just get through to tea and see after that. Being a lower order batsman your fingers do itch to play a big shot but Vernon kept me in a good mind space. I sat with Prasanna (analyst) last night and look at the gameplan for me going forward. I wanted to stay outside off stump to spin, I tried to stay legside of the ball for Jadeja. We saw Shami got the ball to reverse, and the wicket is deteriorating, but the longer you bat the easier it is. After a few pulls I felt normal (in the shoulder). It's better to be positive, because if you go into your shell a ball with your name will come along sooner or later.

4.30 pm: That's also stumps. Will India enforce the follow-on? They have time to sleep over it. They've bowled 105.4 overs though, so Kohli might want to bat for two sessions and then declare.

4.28 pm: That's four wickets for Ashwin and you have to wonder why he wasn't used more effectively in this innings. He came on to bowl very late, and was often a bystander while Jadeja was wheeling away. Magnificent batting by Keshav Maharaj and Vernon Philander though, who put on a century stand for the ninth wicket. South Africa wouldn't have expected to be batting into the final moments of the day when du Plessis fell well before tea, but Maharaj and Philander have ensured that is so.

Ashwin to Rabada, OUT, given out lbw but Rabada is reviewing. That's only because they have a review left. It looked pretty plumb. And DRS confirms that's three reds, so that will end South Africa's innings. Nice loop from around the wicket, pitches on middle and leg and goes almost straight on. He's playing down the wrong line to defend, expecting it to turn, but it hits his pad. Would have crashed into leg stump.

Ashwin to Rabada, no run, nice loop and dip, pitches on middle but he defends solidly

Anekant : "Enforcing follow on after bowlers have bowled more than 100 overs is going to be a problem. India can bat for a session tomorrow and declare"
