Scorer: Chandan Duorah | Commentator: Sreshth Shah
9.05pm Aaand, that's all from us at ESPNcricinfo. On behalf of Sid Monga, Varun Shetty (in Guwahati) and Deivarayan Muthu, this is Sreshth Shah signing off. Remember you can hop over to the exciting Zimbabwe v Bangladesh game happening in Mirpur. See you soon for the second ODI in a couple of days.
Akash: "This is not right. Rohit should have been the man of the match. On what grounds were Virat chosen? At the end if you see, Rohit finished the match with strike rate same as Virat. He scored 150+. If someone scored 90 and someone 100, who would you give MoM trophy to?"
8.56pm We're moments away from the presentation. And here's Sanjay Manjrekar to kick things off.
Virat Kohli is the Man of the Match. Here's what the winning captain has to say: "Feels pretty good. A convincing win. I thought West Indies were really good with the bat. And 320+ totals are always tricky. But we knew it's all about one partnership. And life isn't difficult when Rohit is at the other end. Happens very rarely when Rohit plays second fiddle. Among the top three, I've preferred the anchor role, but today I felt good and I communicated with Rohit that he should play the anchor role. And when I got out, he took over and Rayudu played the anchor. And I've always enjoyed batting with him. It's our fifth [sixth] double-hundred partnership. I have a few years left to enjoy the sport. Playing for the country is a matter of pride, so you can't take any game lightly. And I like being honest to the sport you love. You're playing for India, not everyone gets to do that, so that needs to be respected. When a side like West Indies bat like that, it's hard to contain them. Wickets did come, but they were going hard at us. So won't blame the bowlers too much, you saw the pitch was good, we chased it down in 42 overs."
Malli: "If Kohli is MoM today then Gauti should be MoM in World cup final 2011. I was eagerly waiting who will be awarded MoM today"
Jason Holder, the losing captain: "Extremely pleased with the batting. Credit to Hetmyer, always good to see a youngster do well. Pretty much everyone chipped in. I thought it was a decent effort with the bat, but life was difficult for our spinners under the light. I would agree we were 25-30 short. I felt we were par, and then we got Dhawan's early wicket, but credit to Kohli and then Rohit. In hindsight, we needed a few partnership breakers. Hetmyer is exciting, and was happy for him after the Test series. The character showed. If he batted 5-6 more overs, we would've got 350."
Abhijato: "It has been an absolute treat tonight. Both of them have played many blinders, but today was on absolutely another level. The pitch was flat, yes, but after a long time we saw their true mastery of cricketing shots. I can admire this partnership's highlights again and again. What players!"
Amit.D: "Right on, Midhun, right on. Can never forget that year (1999). Both were the only 300+ partnerships in ODIs for years! Probably a decade. "
Agney: "Hitman just one big hit away to equal master's tally of 195 sixes. Whatta clean striker of the cricket ball!!!"
Mihit Naik: "In a match where both teams scored over 300 and all the bowlers went over 5.6 rpo Chahal should be an obvious MOM"
Midhun: "I remember the other two times when two batsmen scored over 140 for India. When Sachin scored 186 with dravid (153 I think) and when Ganguly scored 183 again with Dravid(145?). Those days!"
Samrat Ahuja: "Who will be the man of match now? To avoid any controversies, they shall give it to Chahal i guess!!"
Sree: "Rayudu's strike rate is also artificially deflated. He has been asked to shepherd a lot of chases with low required run rate. His approach has been to cut risk and get the job done. "
Siddiq : "If India batted first, Rohit would have had a chance to hit his next double ton. Still 8 more overs to spare."
8.43pm Only the third instance that two Indians have scored 140+ in an ODI as Holder and Rohit shakes hands. Utter domination with the bat as Rohit and Kohli hit 36 fours and 10 sixes. Guwahati's new ground witnesses an India win in their first ever ODI. The Windies look despondent as they walk out of the ground. Only Jason Holder (5.62) finishes with an economy of less than six among the visitors. As for the Indian bowling, Chahal's three-wicket haul was impressive, and honestly, so was Jadeja's bowling despite going for over six per over. Stick around, we'll have the presentation in a moment.
Yuzvendra Chahal: "On this wicket, you need to vary your pace. Because when ball is old, it grips. If the batsman is tall, then you need to vary. Plus, they were looking for sixes only when I was bowling, so I bowled differently. They are very strong guys so we can't bowl full too often. The way Rohit and Kohli batted, it was enjoyable from the stands.
Can Rohit go past 150? India need 3 to win.
END OF OVER:42 | 14 Runs | IND: 320/2 (3 runs required from 48 balls, RR: 7.61, RRR: 0.37)
- Rohit Sharma146 (116b)
- Ambati Rayudu22 (26b)
- Oshane Thomas9-0-83-1
- Chandrapaul Hemraj1-0-3-0
Pushkaraj: "More than Rayudu's average I'm bit worried abt his strike rate.~74 doesn't give the confidence in big chases especially when you get such blistering starts from your top 3 don't want the chase to get stuck and increase the pressure. Mind you he is absolutely a good player! "
Dhaval Shah : "All the middle-order woes people, don't worry. Our middle-order will get enough exposure in Australia and New Zealand which will be a good practice before the big one."
