9.30 pm New Zealand have a better than par score on the board, despite being troubled through the middle overs by Pakistan's spinners. And all of that is down to Corey Anderson. The allrounder who made his name by hitting the then fastest century in ODIs, who then suffered with so much injury no one even cared about him, is now back in the reckoning and this innings - on a slow pitch and against a superb bowling attack - may well prove to be his second coming. (Here's Jarrod Kimber on Anderson's fight to outdo his potential)

This total of 153 owes itself to Colin Munro too, another player who likes the ball coming onto the bat, but is now showing he has the game to succeed on difficult pitches as well. Scored all but five of New Zealand's first fifty runs. But as soon as he fell - Mohammed Hafeez claiming another left-hander, Pakistan had the opening they wanted to boss the game. Imad Wasim took centre stage and later in the innings the 18-year old Shaheen Afridi showed just why he is such a highly rated prospect. Phew, those yorkers were nothing short of fiery.

Barring the outlier - Afghanistan chased 183 against UAE here in December 2016 - the highest successful chase in Dubai is 156

.

ABAE: "Sarfraz missed a trick by not bowling Hafeez when Anderson was in. Was far enough from the death overs and would have likely resulted in a few more miserly overs. Also, Faheem should have bowled the penultimate over, not Hasan who's been off all day."

Sara Tirmizi: "Hassan Ali 43/0 3 overs , other bowlers 113/7 17 overs .. indeed an off day for him "

Shaheen Shah Afridi to Anderson, 2 runs, slogs the length ball to deep square leg for a couple
19.5
2
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Anderson, 2 runs, full on leg stump, Anderson mis-hits it to deep square leg. Ooooh, he's been pasting those over the ropes. But here, he misses out
19.4
W
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Southee, OUT, slower ball, outside off, Southee swings, he misses, Anderson tries to pinch the bye, but Sarfraz relays the throw to the bowler and Afridi hits the stumps at his own end with Southee well short. This was any way a ploy to get Anderson back on strike and that's been accomplished

TG Southee run out 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

1
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Anderson, 1 run, steps out but the heat-seeking yorker on middle has too much on it for Anderson to do much about. Single to long-off
19.2
W
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Seifert, OUT, taken at long-on! Looks a million bucks with the freaky shots but when he has to hit down the ground, he doesn't get enough power. Slower ball does Seifert in as he makes contact with only the toe-end and is caught at long-on

TL Seifert c Shadab Khan b Shaheen Shah Afridi 11 (7b 1x4 1x6) SR: 157.14

6
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Seifert, SIX, mis-hit, but look at it sail! Seifert premeditates the scoop again. But this time, with Afridi bowling at full pace, the ball ending up a full toss on middle stump as well, the batsman profits with his invention

Hasan Ali to Anderson, 2 runs, heaves the full delivery on middle out to the left of long-on for a couple. Needs a dive from Seifert and he puts it in. Full length, keeping the bat from bouncing. Good effort from the NZ wicketkeeper

Hasan Ali to Anderson, 2 runs, full on leg stump, whips it away behind square leg
18.4
6
Hasan Ali to Anderson, SIX, maaaaaasive! Picks the offcutter, clears the front leg, swings violently and though it hits only the bottom of the bat, Anderson has so much power that it sails away

1
Hasan Ali to Seifert, 1 run, scoops the slower ball over square leg. He was hoping for another quick delivery, somewhere near the blockhole that he could get under, but Hasan spots the batsman trying to scoop and changes it up so well

Kaleem: "Shaheen cementing his place while Usman Khan watches out benched. Pakistani team and talented bowlers, a better love story."

4
Hasan Ali to Seifert, FOUR, carves a low full toss to the cover boundary. Hasan - strangely - is missing the blockhole and he's being punished for it. Mercilessly punished

Only a run and a wicket off that over. Shaheen Afridi, take a bow!

Shaheen Shah Afridi to Seifert, no run, wraps things up with a yorker - and if only for variation, this is on off stump. Seifert digs it out to short cover and Anderson has a run-out scare again. Ooof, Shadab is electric in the infield

Mebs: "Seeing Hasan Ali getting smashed around is worrying for me; a few months ago the person who was so hard to play off has become a bit of a liability, this reminds me of the injustice that has happened with Junaid Khan who in spite of being in better form can't get into the side. "

Shaheen Shah Afridi to Seifert, no run, another sensational yorker, on the base of middle stump, and Seifert, who is a big-hitter, isn't able to do much about it.

Shaheen Shah Afridi to Seifert, no run, low full tos,s which he taps back to short cover. Run-out chance there with Anderson backing up at the non-strikers'. Shadab misses his mark by just a tiny bit

1
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Anderson, 1 run, full and straight. Anderson can't get any leverage on it and so has to settle for a single to long-on

Shaheen Shah Afridi to Anderson, no run, looks for the big hit, down the ground, but the full length slower ball beats him

Tayyab45: "@AL what's the avg first innings score ?" --- Somewhere between 140 and 145

W
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Williamson, OUT, oooh, he's clipped a leg-stump half-volley straight to deep backward square leg. The intention is to get a couple of runs, but Williamson ends up timing the ball too well. Oh the irony. He's had to struggle to connect with the ball all innings, but persevered ever so well until now, only to get out to a shot he ends up hitting better than he even wanted to

Hasan Ali to Anderson, FOUR, finds a way! He finds a way to score off even a leg-stump, pin-point yorker! Four to fine leg. Boy, oh boy! Anderson, where have you been all this time!?

4
Hasan Ali to Anderson, FOUR, and again! Brute force from Anderson as he picks up the slower ball this time, standing tall against it and pulling it to the midwicket fence
16.4
6
Hasan Ali to Anderson, SIX, smaaaaaaash! The yorker goes wrong. Anderson clears the front leg, picks up the low full toss and launches it over long-on. Absolute power
16.3

Hasan Ali to Anderson, no run, swings and misses and that's only because of the change of pace. Anderson gets the length he wants and he goes for the slog, ever so eagerly, but Hasan trumps him with the offcutter

Hasan Ali to Williamson, 1 run, backs away and gets a shortish slower ball to deal with. Williamson slaps it to point for a single
