4.30pm So, Pakistan have reached 203, which is a lot more than they looked like getting when they were eight down for 112 inside 32 overs. Captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Hasan Ali sparked a remarkable fightback with their 90-run stand - a new record for Pakistan for the ninth wicket, and in all ODIs at this ground - with Hasan going to his second ODI fifty. But after Sarfraz fell, it all ended very quickly, and Pakistan will have wanted just a few more to really create some pressure. Andile Phehlukwayo did most of the damage in taking a career-best 4 for 22, though his figures were inflated somewhat by Hasan's hitting at the end. Likewise for Tabraiz Shamsi, who struck three times before Hasan got hold of him too. That ninth wicket effort aside, this looked a tricky wicket to bat on, and Pakistan certainly have the bowlers to make a fist of the second innings. Join us in half an hour or so for the chase.

Vinod Rajpal: "I can smell Amla's knock of 196 runs to cross his 8000 ODI career runs !" That would be a funky knock. Anyway, enough of all this, it's time for some cricket. The players are back in the middle

SK: "Shaheen, make Amla smell the leather!"

Zen: "I am in Toronto, Canada, sneaking scores in at the office. Thanks for providing them, and the great commentary." Thanks for tuning in!

Hamza Khan: "We over here are smelling something unpredictable , but over there Sarfraz might be smelling Hassan's Socks , He has batted for a long time tho :p" Side-eyeing this contribution.

Ijaaz: "Atleast the SMELL jokes are over...." Don't speak to soon. I'm still wading (or should that be wafting?) through and moderating some very smelly comments.

Arsalan Khan: "Hassan ali showed confidence, what is lacking in most of Pakistani batters. What to scare of play you shots and dominate. I hate Kamran Akmal as a keeper but i miss him in ODIs as a opener he surely play all his shots and shows bravery."

Azam: "Hassan Ali should open the bowling attack.." He'll certainly have some extra pep in his step after that knock. It's this pitch could suit a stump-attacking line

"Company provides free lunch everyday, lunchtime is at least 2 hours away, but I can smell." Lunchtime? Where are you tuning in from Zen?

Aara Aadil Bash: "Pakistan is having a good bowling attack hope they will defend this low score"

Dr Mudassir May: "These small totals are always tricky.Pakistan has good repu to defend small totals. If Pakistan get early wickets it can be intersting."

imran: "i can smell what PAKISTAN is cooking "

Hyder: "Hey Liam, thx for that joke. At least now I feel that I am not the only one with those terrible jokes" It's all jokes and jinxes with me. You've got to enjoy what you do.

Khurram: "Those fans who find some smell today pls take bath and let other to live happily"

Hamza Khan: "Y'all keep smelling close contests , i smell a one sided chase with a century from one of the openers , lets see who gets their noses' checked in the end ;)"

Nauman : "Please ask that smelly guy how SA batting will go..."

Khurram Iqbal: "Seeing some of the comments from my fellow Pakistan fans, there seems to be a fashion of "smelling" the future"

Ahmed: "Is today SMELL Day or Nose day.. many are pushing there nose for some sort of smell." I'm not sure, but some of our commenters have a terrible scents of humour ;)

Umer: "This match is pretty much similar to 1st odi at capetown in 2013. Whether Pakistan can repeat that bowling performance. Pakistan had more all rounders in that match also."

Adil Shahzad: "InshAllah shadab and hassan friendship will win this match i can smell.. First ever comment in ESPN"

Chirag Sheth: "Unable to understand why Sarfaraz doesnt bat up earlier, lack of confidence or trying to stabilize the innings ?" I suspect he's trying to provide ballast for the lower middle order, but that could have done with his calm head earlier in the innings today.

Imran Naseer : "This will be a close contest, I can smell."

Farooq: "This fighting total will give boost to bowlers especially Hassan Ali, no doubt he'll bowl with extra energy, for me its a defendable total. "

4.28pm "I asked my captain, and he said yes you can play your shots," says topscorer Hasan Ali. "So I decided to play my shots. When I reached fifty I gave a message to my very sweet friend Shadab Khan, I told him I would make a fifty on this tour and after I reached it I sent a message to say 'I've done it'," adds Hasan, explaining his celebration on reaching fifty.

Pieter Krypto: "Phehlukwayo is heavily underrated , he keeps on impressing . "

Yaqoob: "Team pakistan is the ever best entertaining side, I can smell"

Hasnain_Ali: "Wow! just brilliant from Hassan Ali this inning will remembered for long time...Congrats."

Phehlukwayo to Hasan Ali, OUT, what a catch! Faf du Plessis pulls off an outstanding catch at long on to close out the innings. Hasan cleared his front leg and aimed for the top tier, but he didn't get all of it. Du Plessis tracked the ball from wide long on, running round while maintaining his distance from the boundary marker, and finally timing his leap to perfection to pluck the ball out of the air. That was six if he'd missed it, but du Plessis holds on and Phehlukwayo ends the innings with a career best 4 for 22

Phehlukwayo to Hasan Ali, no run, wonderfully bowled once again, zinging in a yorker that Hasan flicks onto his own pad. It was a slower ball too, a knuckle ball

Phehlukwayo to Hasan Ali, no run, good grief, Hasan has charged out and tried to murder this through the off side, but Phehlukwayo's got the guile to send the ball floating out wide to beat a flailing bat

Hyder: "Liam, Thx for jinxing it" My strike-rate is unparalleled

Phehlukwayo to Shaheen Shah Afridi, 1 run, Afridi is off the mark straight away, though in unconvincing fashion as he slices an edge down to third man. Still, Hasan on strike now

Sameer Mohyuddi: ""Pakistan cricket at its best; one minute down, next minute up!""

Phehlukwayo to Sarfaraz Ahmed, OUT, bowled him! Phehlukwayo comes back and strikes straight away. This was an innocuous delivery, medium pace on a length and seaming slightly back in, but Sarfraz was neither forward nor back as he looked to work it to leg, and the ball shoots through the gate to rattle the stumps. How South Africa needed that strike!

After that bristling start, South Africa are starting to look a little rattled by this fightback

Paterson to Hasan Ali, FOUR, a career best effort now, and another boundary! Paterson drifts one into his pads and Hasan just lifts the ball cleanly up and over square leg for four more. 200 up as well
