2:38pm A strange innings, in truth. NZ aced the powerplay, which has often been the problem area for teams batting first. Conway and Seifert set the foundation, with Ravindra then unfurling his array of strokes to ensure NZ were very well-placed with about seven overs to go. But they just could not inject enough impetus into the innings thereafter. Mitchell huffed and puffed, as did Bracewell, and once Ravindra fell, NZ lacked the requisite momentum to get close to 190.

SA will be happy with how they fought back. Ngidi began that slow-down, with two terrific overs just before the onset of the death-overs. Burger and Maphaka did their bit towards the end too, and even though 181 has not been chased before - by South Africa against New Zealand in all men's T20Is, and at this venue in this tri-series - the Proteas will feel they can give this a proper rattle. Join us in a bit for the chase!

Lungi Ngidi: (On the powerplay) The main thing was keeping it simple. It looked like they were not taking as many risks, so about keeping the run-rate down. On a length, top of off, was the better ball. Was trying to keep it straight. What I found, when I started bowling cross-seam, if you keep it at the stumps, it was very effective. (On the score) I would have taken that, especially with the start they got. The only thing we could do was keep the run-rate down.

Maphaka to Mitchell, 2 runs, a brace to end the innings! Full on middle and leg, and this is there to be hit. Mitchell, though, lets the bottom hand take over too much and he drags it towards long on. A tame end to proceedings for the Kiwis, and they will not be best pleased with their late-overs batting effort!

Maphaka to Santner, 1 run, slower yorker just outside off. Santner drives it back past the bowler and has to settle for a single, with long on sharp off the mark to prevent the second

2
Maphaka to Santner, 2 runs, thigh-high full toss on middle and leg, but such has been the slow-down that Santner cannot capitalize on this. Tugs it towards deep mid wicket and hares back for two
