2:32pm Another stop-start innings, and that has, more or less, been the theme when teams have batted first here in the tri-series. Hendricks was the only batter to cross 25, and he too had to endure an almighty struggle at the start, often failing to time the ball. There were brief spurts of excitement but none of those lasted long enough to inject any sustained impetus into the innings.

NZ were tidy for most parts, and made the most of whatever help was on offer. They bowled neatly in the powerplay, with Santner building on that in the middle overs. There were a few errors in the field towards the end, but at this stage, NZ will be pretty confident of chasing 135. Join us in a bit for the second innings!

Reeza Hendricks: (On the conditions) It was not the easiest pitch. It is a bit tricky, especially in the powerplay. Wicket was a little two-paced, not easy to get into a rhythm. We are a bit short, and had to fight to get (to that total). Partnerships are key, but we never got going. The score might have looked different (if we had gotten partnerships). We would have loved to have gotten at least 165. But the wicket is tricky. Hopefully we can pick up 2-3 in the powerplay, and we will have to bowl really well (to defend this score).

Duffy to Peter, 2 runs, miscued, but safe! Full just outside off. Peter gives it the lot but slices it terribly. The ball skews up and lobs over backward point, bobbling towards deep third. SA finish with 134!

Duffy to Peter, no run, this is shorter outside off and this climbs through higher. Peter continues swinging like a rusty gate and gets nowhere close to the ball

Duffy to Peter, no run, hard length on middle stump and this zips off the surface. Peter swings himself off his feet and only swats away a few flies in the process

Duffy to Peter, FOUR, oh dear - more sloppy work in the field! Excellent yorker on middle and off. Peter squeezes it out towards deep third, and the fielder, running around to his left, ends up diving over it!

Duffy to Linde, 1 run, Duffy tests out the middle of the track. Linde winds up and heaves it towards deep backward square leg

Duffy to Linde, no run, was that a bump-ball?! Into the blockhole outside off. Linde looks for the reverse-ramp and seems to make a mess of it. The ball also seems to deflect off the bat, but there is no real appeal, nor any inclination from the umpires to take it upstairs. Interesting, especially with that being a hat-trick ball...

Milne to Linde, 1 run, into the blockhole on middle and off. Linde jams down on it, opens his bat face and guides it towards deep backward point

Milne will not be best pleased with these fielding errors

Milne to Linde, 2 runs, off-pace and dug into the track outside off. Linde opens up his stance and flat-bats it towards long on, who then fires an errant throw and ends up conceding another

Milne to Linde, 2 runs, another cutter, into the track just outside off. Linde swishes at it too early and slices it towards deep point. The sweeper comes charging in and misfields, allowing the second

Milne to Peter, 1 run, zipped into the blockhole on leg stump. Peter squirts it towards short fine leg and gets called through for the single

Milne to Muthusamy, OUT, straight to Ravindra, and Muthusamy has to go! Seems like an off-cutter, dug into the track outside off. Muthusamy opts to go over extra cover this time, but fails to get the desired elevation. Scuffs it to extra cover, and Ravindra accepts that regulation chance with minimal fuss!

Milne to Muthusamy, SIX, picked up and dumped over deep backward square leg! Shortish outside off. Muthusamy moves across his stumps early, sizes up the length and whacks it over the fence!

Foulkes to Linde, 2 runs, wide yorker to cap off the over. Linde reaches out for it and digs it out towards deep backward point. Calls for the second mid-way through the first and hurtles back to complete it

This has been a top over so far

Foulkes to Muthusamy, 1 leg bye, zipped in full just outside leg. Muthusamy misses his attempted paddle and the ball trickles off his pad into the on side. Foulkes went up in appeal, but that definitely pitched outside leg

Foulkes to Muthusamy, 2 runs, full again but this time on the pads. Muthusamy rolls his wrists and works it behind square to get off the mark with a brace

Foulkes to Linde, no run, slower ball into the track just outside off. Linde, rather ambitiously, looks for the reverse-ramp but has zero pace to work with. Plays and misses

Duffy to Coetzee, OUT, a snorter to welcome Coetzee, and he is on his way! Sharp short ball just outside off and this climbs up onto Coetzee. Also seems to come in with the angle and Coetzee has no room to maneuver it. He does try to upper cut it but all he does is guide it straight through to Seifert. Duffy, all of a sudden, is on a hat-trick, and SA in real danger of being bowled out!

Duffy to Hendricks, OUT, slapped straight to Bracewell at cover, and Hendricks throws his head back in disappointment! This is banged into the track wide outside off. Hendricks' eyes light up and he throws his hands at it. The ball, though, holds in the surface just enough to meddle with Hendricks' timing. In the end, he can neither clear Bracewell in the ring, nor can he keep it down. A tame dismissal, given how hard he had toiled, but NZ will take that with both hands, especially at this stage!
