2:24pm Another Zimbabwe innings that lacked momentum. This time, they did try their best in the powerplay, throwing their bats at almost everything. And while the intent was on point, the execution wasn't. Madhevere played a lot of strokes for his 32-ball 36, and Bennett sparkled intermittently during a 20-ball 21, but apart from that, the other batters really struggled for consistent rhythm.

That was down to the conditions and how New Zealand bowled. Once they realized what the pitch was doing, they rarely offered up any freebies. Santner and Ravindra got the ball to turn, with the pacers making the most of the extra bounce. They also bowled their overs well in time, and they will feel quite confident about this run-chase. Join us in a bit for the second innings!

Rachin Ravindra: (On going into the action straight after the MLC) A little bit tired, but always nice to play for New Zealand. That wicket really helped me - gripped a lot. Not too much skill in the bowling (laughs), the wicket did the work. Thought the wicket was dry, the boys said it was a little barer (than against SA). Was expecting a bit (of help), not that drastic (though). (On their fielding and work in the field) That is something we pride ourselves on. We realize it is an attitude thing, about putting in a hundred percent. We are all good mates and we try to help each other out.

Henry to Munyonga, OUT, holes out to deep backward square leg, and Zimbabwe finish bang on 120! Seems like another cutter into the track. Comes off slow, meaning that Munyonga has to muster all the pace and power. Drags his swipe a little and ends up picking out Chapman behind square!

3
Henry to Munyonga, 3 runs, a superlative try, but Santner cannot make it stick! Slower bumper wide outside off. Munyonga reaches out for it and swishes himself off his feet. Chips it over mid off and Santner hares back, trying to catch it over his shoulder. He lunges at it in the end but cannot quite hold on. Full marks for the effort, but not quite the result he would have wanted

Henry to Munyonga, no run, another rapid bumper to finish the over. Just outside off and Munyonga has a mighty swipe across the line. There is a noise as the ball passes the bat, but the umpire is unmoved...

Henry to Maposa, 1 run, oh dear - what has happened there?! Shortish on middle and off, and Maposa advances without really gauging the length. The ball rears up near his head and he has to fend at it hurriedly. He pops it into the on side and does not know initially where the ball has gone. Gets called through for the single and would have been out with a direct hit

Henry to Musekiwa, OUT, another short ball, another attempted pull but this time, Musekiwa bites the dust! The major difference from the previous ball is that this gets really big on Musekiwa. Almost up to the back shoulder, meaning that he only manages a top-edge on the swipe. Duffy settles under the high ball at fine leg and makes no mistake!
