15.5 there's the big wicket! Quicker one on this occasion. Pitches just outside off and angling into Tamim. He tries to defend off the front foot, but the ball goes between bat and pad... and crashes into the stumps 72/1
27.4 misses the wrong'un and he's given lbw. He won't review it. Superb bowling from Sandakan. Slips in the one that comes in and beats the inside edge after drawing him forward. Kayes leaves the gap between bat and pad and he's trapped in front. It appeared to be going high on first look*, but they've decided against the review. * Replays of Kayes' lbw showed that the ball would have gone over leg stump. 120/2
92.4 oho, a rather tame end to what has been a sparkling innings. This has come against the run of play, out of rather nowhere. Mominul clips a fuller one on the pads but uses hard wrists and chips it in the air. Short leg takes a good reflex catch at an awkward height, above the chest region, with both hands. Sri Lanka strike early on the second morning 376/5
83.5 got him! Lakmal has found the edge. Looks a harmless delivery, really. Good length at a sixth stump line, going straight through. He's marginally inside the line and a tad late on the forward block. A straightforward catch for Dickwella. He falls nine short of the hundred. A solid innings from him comes to a close - his first as a pure batsman in his entire career 356/3
83.6 yes they can! It's Liton's off stump! Another harmless ball. At a length, in at off stump. Liton chooses not to use the bat on a pitch that is clear in it's affinity for the willow. Leaves it alone and Lakmal tonks off stump. Liton goes out shouldering arms yet again 356/4

96.1 that's the second wicket of the morning that's been gifted to Sri Lanka. This is exactly what they needed. Two wickets in the first hour. It's angled in towards him and grips and turns so doesn't really come on. Mosaddek comes down the track and dares to go over the mid-on fielder and ends up chipping tamely to him 390/6
102.2 flatter length ball, spins away outside off, opens the face and guides through backward point. The ball's trickling away towards the boundary and Miraz calls for the third run. Dickwella whips the bails off and he's gone. Miraz dives and keeps his bat along the ground all through but that's not good enough. He's short of the crease. Oh, jeez, all three wickets this morning have been to Bangladesh's own undoing. There was never a third there 417/7
119.3 that could be out. Has he been strangled down the leg side? The umpire goes upstairs to check this stumping chance. It's too full on leg stump, he walks forward and tries to clip it away but the ball sneaks from underneath and goes to the keeper. He has overbalanced and walked forward and the keeper takes the bails off. And though he slides it back in after turning around, it's a fraction of a second too late. Good hand from Sunzamul, ends is unexpected fashion 475/8
120.2 flight, turn and bounce. That had everything. Floats it up outside off and draws him forward. It's just short of being a fuller one and spins past the inside edge sharply before clattering into the stumps 478/9
129.5 the short one again but this time it follows the batsman and forces him to skew it in the air. Mustafizur backs away and then can't get underneath it. Doesn't withdraw the bat completely either and makes half an attempt at an uppercut. The ball lobs in the air off the top part of the bat and the keeper settles under it 513/10

2.3 oh, loose shot! Very, very poor from Karunaratne. Pushing at a very wide one, taking lot of turn and going off the outside edge and settling into the hands of first slip who takes it to his right. Early strike for Bangladesh 0/1
104.3 a stunning catch from Mushfiqur to end Kusal's innings on 196! I wonder if tea approaching had anything to do with that stroke, it was full outside off, but Kusal came charging down, looking to flick the ball over midwicket - probably the wrong shot selection, considering it was against the spin, but he has done it so easily that complacency may have crept in. Mushfiqur keeps his eyes on the ball right through its trajectory, till when it's in his hands. Made significant ground to his right from mid-on, good diving catch 415/3
82.5 taken by the keeper and a 308-run stand ends! The new ball has worked. A short delivery is angled across the batsman, Dananjaya gets across, looking to swivel into a pull into the leg side, but the ball takes the leading edge. The keeper gets across and takes the pressure catch. End of a terrific innings, struck at more than 75. 308/2
155.4 got him! Gets an under-edge on the cut and Liton snaps it. This skids through low outside off. He gets a little too far away from it as he cuts and ends up reaching out. Natural variation from the pitch does it for Miraz 550/4
168.3 bowled him! He left this gap and survived a ball before lunch, but the mistake has been repeated. Taijul bowls the arm ball on a good length, just outside off. He's looking to drive through cover without getting to the pitch and the ball smashes into middle stump 613/5
179.1 Dickwella misjudges the line of this delivery and has sent a feather through to the keeper. It's a length ball that he gets down to reverse sweep which is problematic enough. And he also tries to drag the shot from well outside the leg stump. No way he was going to be able to make good connection on that 663/6
188.3 trapped right in front of middle stump, given lbw, but then he puts in a reluctant review. This looks very out. If he hasn't got bat on it, it will stand. he was looking to whip this through midwicket and was caught on the back knee, right in front of the stumps. Yep, plumb. Sunzamul gets his first Test wicket. 687/7
199.3 trapped in front as he looks to sweep and he won't review. Pushed through flat on off stump and he's struck on the back thigh 713/9
197.3 clean bowled. Old-fashioned heave across the line. Length ball comes in and tonks middle stump. Keeping it simple 706/8

21.4 got him on the outside edge! Tamim's out of luck on the big forward push. Possibly because of the revs Sandakan gets in comparison to the two offspinners who bowled previously. This spins faster and is skiddier. He's pushing way outside off stump and well away from his body. Shakes the head as Mominul asks about a review. Sri Lanka have got the big wicket 76/2
14.6 oh dear. Good luck explaining that. He goes for a ramp immediately after Sri Lanka put in a fielder for that shot. Ends up taking his eyes off the ball and it hits the toe-end to ping towards a straight-ish square leg. All that man has to do is take a few steps to his left to complete a waist-high catch 52/1
77.2 Sri Lanka finally, finally find a breakthrough through de Silva. Nevertheless, record-breaking innings from Mominul. De Silva tosses this offbreak outside off and gets it to turn away further, Mominul has a loose prod and nicks it behind to slip, where Karunaratne judges it well and completes a diving catch to his right with both hands 261/4
26.5 silly point has taken this and they've appealed. Mushfiq pushing on the front foot outside off. he's got bat on it and it has bounced up to silly point. The question here is whether it bounced off his boot. It was close. They've sent it upstairs with soft signal not out. It doesn't look good for Mushfiq though. This appears to have gone straight into his boot...and the catch is take cleanly! Herath has snapped one in the last over and it's Mushfiqur Rahim! Silly point leaps forward with his right hand to take a catch and then make a review. He was confident about this. Kusal Mendis is the man under the lid. 81/3
82.2 Dilruwan tears back from mid-off and hangs onto a skier. Herath strikes with the second new ball. Tossed up outside off and turns away, Liton dares to step out. But is is nowhere close to the pitch and ends up shooting this up in the air. What was Liton even thinking? Dilruwan runs back from mid-off, gets into a side-on position, but still manages to hold his balance. He looks over his right shoulder and takes it to deny Liton a maiden Test hundred. Anyone sensing a collapse? 279/5

Match Notes

  • Chittagong pitch rated 'below average' by ICC

Venue receives one demerit point, which will stay on it's record for five years; four more such points within that period and the ground will be suspended from hosting internationals for 12 months

  • Mominul, Liton lay out blueprint for the future

The pair's stand in Chittagong was not just a match-saving partnership, but a window into the future of Bangladesh's batting - one in which the juniors lighten the seniors' load

  • Players offer contrasting views on Chittagong pitch

The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium can now be added to the list of recent venues (the others being the MCG and the Wanderers) in which either the batsmen or the bowlers had absolute advantage over the other

  • Mominul 105, Liton 94 end run-fest in draw

During the course of his 180-run stand with Liton Das, Mominul Haque became the first Bangladesh batsman to score centuries in each innings of a Test

  • Bangladesh's batsmen pay for defensive mindset

"They went into a negative position to save their wickets and defend the balls. The ball is turning from the rough. I think positive approach is the best way to play on this wicket," Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella said
