8.40 pm MS Dhoni has been at the centre of a raging debate in Indian cricket, people questioning his ability to be a power-hitter, a man who could come out and hit fours and sixes straight away. And adding to that storm was a pitch that wasn't entirely straightforward to bat on, and a set of Sri Lankan bowlers who were doing rather well despite the dew. There was a five-over spell in the middle where only 30 runs was scored and two wickets was taken - one of them was the half-centurion KL Rahul. India have often fizzled out in such stages. But today they scored 61 runs in the last four overs. Manish Pandey, coming in despite Hardik Pandya in the shed, showed great composure and some pretty cool trick shots, including hitting a beamer outside off for six over third man. Sri Lanka executed their plan of bowling the yorkers quite well, but the odd ball slipped out of their hand because of the dew and Dhoni, playing shots he all but cut out of his game, along with his old hair, pounced on them all to give India a pretty good total

While you're waiting for Sri Lanka to begin their chase, jump over to www.espn.in for more reading material from the world of sport. Here's Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu reflecting on what has been another successful year for her."

"It wasn't the easiest conditions to bat. But the way we started was really good. To lose Rohit early wasn't great. If he had batted a bit longer, we could have got 20-30 runs extra," Rahul says. "Then the responsibility was on me to bat long. The wicket was a bit sticky. It was the spongy wicket, making it seem like there is extra bounce. But once you're settled, you can line up where to hit. It wasn't two paced. Once I got 15-20 balls, I knew where to hit it. When we played a few overs, we realised it wasn't a 200 wicket and the new ball was seaming around a bit too. We spoke about getting to 160-170 and I think it was an exceptional finish from MS And Manish to get where we are"

NLTC Perera to Dhoni, SIX, hangs deep in his crease and heaves it over deep square leg! A low full toss from Thisara, on middle, becomes the perfect ball for Dhoni to end the innings off on a high

Pradeep to Pandey, FOUR, smashes the low full toss outside off - the free hit ball - through the cover boundary - and Pradeep, because of a couple of full tosses - ends up leaking 21 runs. It was brave of him to keep going for the yorkers, and he did hit the required length a few times. But there is such little margin for error in this game, at this stage.

Pradeep to Pandey, (no ball) SIX, that is outrageous! He knows it will be a wide yorker, and originally he seems to get low in his crease to get ready for it. But then he sees a beamer coming at him and ramps it to the third man boundary

1
Pradeep to Dhoni, 1 run, continues attacking the blockhole, wide outside off, Dhoni just about plants his bat out for a single to third man
18.4
4
Pradeep to Dhoni, FOUR, the yorker goes wrong and Dhoni pounces on it. Low full toss, giving Dhoni the room to free his arms and power it away to the midwicket boundary

Dhoni takes a little time to pull the grass off his spikes so that he won't slip while running between the wickets

Purvesh: "These are extremely difficult fielding conditions. Where will India hide the weaker fielders like Kuldeep, Unadkat & Bumrah, I wonder?"

18.3
2
Pradeep to Dhoni, 2 runs, nails the blockhole and Dhoni squeezes it out to deep cover. Poor Pradeep finds it unfair that they picked up two for that.

1w
Pradeep to Dhoni, 1 wide, shuffles across outside off, so Pradeep goes wider with his yorker, and strays past the tram line. Dhoni leaves and collects the extra
18.2
1
Pradeep to Pandey, 1 run, another yorker at 140 kph, and Pandey, getting his back leg across outside off, pulls off a helicopter shot that goes along the ground to long-on

Mani J: "Why am I nervous every ball when Dhoni is on strike. Feel like Sachin in the 90s in the 90's"

1w
Pradeep to Pandey, 1 wide, looks for the blockhole again, away from Pandery's reach, but it skirts too far wide outside off

Pradeep to Pandey, no run, brilliant work, another yorker, outside off, and Pandey bunts it back at the bowler. Pradeep is so very good at finding that length. Even with a wet ball...

India fighting back, Sri Lanka not letting them run away with it, two more overs of this duel left. Come on!

1
NLTC Perera to Pandey, 1 run, nails the yorker on a fifth stump line and Pandey can only squeezes it out for a single to point. Good recovery from the captain, showing all his T20 experience, especially in these death overs
17.5
1
NLTC Perera to Dhoni, 1 run, goes just over extra cover! Dhoni looks to hit the low full toss over the offside infield and nearly ends up caught by Gunaratne
17.4
4
NLTC Perera to Dhoni, FOUR, brilliant! He knows by now that Sri Lanka are banking on the slower balls. So he holds his position nicely, waits for it to get near him and then deflects it to the left of short fine leg. Top shot
17.3
1
NLTC Perera to Pandey, 1 run, off-pace delivery, on a length, slogs it to long-on
17.2

NLTC Perera to Dhoni, 1 run, low full toss outside off, which Dhoni smashes to deep cover. Sensational timing. Good effort from the man in the deep, Asela Gunaratne, moving to his right

NLTC Perera to Pandey, 1 run, change of pace at 110 kph, on a length and outside off, Pandey drills it to long-off

1
Chameera to Pandey, 1 run, another slower ball, which Pandey tries to smash straight down the ground again. But he gets a thick outside edge to third man instead
16.5
2
Chameera to Pandey, 2 runs, slower ball - and it's launched straight down the ground. Looks glorious as the ball flies towards the sightscreen. But there isn't quite enough on the ball to beat long-off and long-on running across. Great effort from Shanaka at long-on, he would have been upset by his team-mate going after the ball, but still pulls off a diving save
16.4
4
Chameera to Pandey, FOUR, looks for the yorker, but it ends up a wide half-volley. Pandey lashes it to the cover boundary. Opens the face to get that gap, to the right of the sweeper
16.3
6
Chameera to Pandey, SIX, in the slot on leg stump, and Pandey sends it soaring to the crowd at midwicket. Clears the front leg and unveils a full swing of the arms. The bat started over his head, came down to meet the ball, and then ends up behind his back

India's biggest

93

Margin of victory for India in this T20I - their largest in T20Is. The previous biggest was by 90 runs against England in 2012 World T20.

Rohit by Mathews again

10

No. of times Rohit Sharma has fallen to Mathews across all formats, three more than he has fallen to any other bowler. Also since 2010, no other India batsman has been dismissed by a bowler these many times.

Bad memories

92

Score at which India were all out for in their first and only T20I in Cuttack, before this match. South Africa were the bowling side then.
