Shadab swings low-scoring scrap with ball and bat

Sri Lanka fought desperately despite a spectacular collapse lit up by a Faheem Ashraf hat-trick, and held the ascendancy right until Shadab Khan smashed a six with Pakistan needing eight from three balls

That's all we have for you from the game. Thank you for joining us. Good night

"Our bowlers did really well to pull Sri Lanka down form their position of strength while they were batting. The fielding too was really really good. And then Shadab at the end, hitting that six, that was a million-dollar shot," Sarfraz Ahmed says. "IN that crunch situation, on this difficult pitch, that shot was very difficult. Our youngsters are putting up big performances. We back them, our coaching staff backs them and they are coming good even in high pressure situations. We have a New Zealand tour, and we can't be batting like this then. We are trying to improve and hopefully we do before going away. Good that we've won the series now, but we are looking forward to the game in Lahore. Hopefully the ground is full and the people support Sri Lanka as well."

"If we look back at this match, we can take a lot of positives," Thisara Perera says. "My team-mates are giving 100%. Just at the last minute we missed a catch. But we did well. On this wicket, it was really hard to put up a big score. One-twenty four is a hard score to defend but our bowlers did a really really good job to take it that far. My team-mates are giving me 100% effort and so I give my 100% to the team as well. As a captain, I'm really proud of them and our win is not too far away. It's coming soon. Set batsman need to contribute, if we take the first two batters, our plan is that they have to play till the 15th over. Unfortunately they couldn't do it. Went to Lahore for the World XI game. It's an amazing place."

11.45 pm Shadab Khan is Man of the Match. "I was just thinking about trying to win the match. I went for the six in the last over, and Allah helped it carry over the fence. In T20s, you have to have variations with the ball. So that's what I've been working on."

11.30 pm. A last over finish. A hat-trick. A fifty. An appeal for obstructing the field. A superb display of death bowling. And a 19-year old allrounder showing outstanding skills under pressure. Low-scoring T20s, aren't they just the best?

Shadab Khan is surrounded by his team-mates, and is soaked by the adulation of the crowd. That six in the final over was a freakish shot. And so too was the winning shot, simply the composure to play the ball gently enough to exploit the fielder standing on the edge of the boundary with the game on the line deserves an award of some kind. But perhaps that will go to Faheem Ashraf for becoming the first Pakistani bowler to take a hat-trick in T20Is

Arbaz: "4-14-0-1 and 16 in 8, I think shadab is real MOM. His nature won my heart. "

Omar: "Shadab & Hasan are the complete package. Luck favoring them (Hasan's dropped catch), performing under pressure (Shadab's six) and smart cricketing skills (soft dab to long on to run 2). Real super stars in the making!"

Spare a thought for the Sri Lankans. They had only 124 on the board, but their inexperienced attack did so well, exploiting a two-paced pitch and nailing yorker after yorker to make the chase so very difficult for the hosts. They've not had the best time in limited-overs cricket of late - it is their 15th loss on the trot in one-dayers. The bowlers and fielders worked their backsides off but the batsmen - collapsing from 101 for 2 to 124 for 9 have to be held accountable for this loss.

shafqat: "SMA Priyanjan was playing as specialist batsman and he bated at 10, Prasana was playing as a bowling allrounder, and he did not get a ball to bowl, that sums up all"

Sanjaya to Shadab Khan, 2 runs, full and outside off, dabs it to long-on, with the express purpose of getting two and he pulls it off! Shadab is absolutely pumped! What a talent! Good batter, sensational bowler, top fielder and a gun player under pressure. He banks on the ball being close to yorker length. He sees long-off and long-on back. He gently taps it down the ground, soft enough to seal Pakistan's series win

Pakistan need two off two

Sanjaya to Shadab Khan, SIX, hoists it straight down the ground! What a shot! Sanjaya goes for the blockhole, but misses it, comes out as a length ball and Shadab smacks it with fearsome power

Sanjaya to Hasan Ali, 3 runs, dropped at long-off Gunathilaka the man, racing in, and having to leap to his left. Good effort, but at this stage of the game, those three runs could prove pivotal

Sanjaya to Shadab Khan, 1 run, full and swinging into the right-hander, who has cleared his leg, waiting for it. Even so, he can only hack it down to long-on

Sanjaya to Faheem Ashraf, OUT, caught at long-on! What scenes!. A superb yorker, tailing in late to the left-hander, is whipped powerfully. But even with all that power, it doesn't carry the distance and that's only because Sanjaya puts the ball so full that Ashraf simply cannot get under it

Pakistan need 12 off the last over, and Sanjaya has the ball

Udana to Faheem Ashraf, 1 leg bye, appeal for lbw as Udana bowls full and angles the ball into the pads. Faheem swings hard, looking for the midwicket boundary. He has to accept a leg bye and Sri Lanka have to accept that ball would have been sliding down.
