8.30 pm On a night soaked in dew, two spinners, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi have bowled eight overs for 55 runs and picked up two wickets. Those stats, however, will be overshadowed by India's openers putting on 80 each. Dhawan was in top form, timing the pants off of everything. Rohit wasn't at his absolute best, but he finishes with a strike-rate just shy of his partner's. India were 80 for 0 in the first 10 overs. But they finish with 202, helped by Virat Kohli's 26 off 11 balls, with three massive sixes. Will it be enough though, with both teams making it plain that there is plenty of moisture on the outfield?

"Really enjoyed it today," Dhawan says. "I've played all my cricket over here, very thankful to do well in my home ground. I feel its a bit of damp surface. But at the same time we scored so many runs, so it was confusing. But considering New Zealand's spinners did so well so we hope ours can follow up"

"There's a bit of dew out there, hurt us in the fielding effort, and it'll be interesting to see if the turn remains in the second innings," says Ish Sodhi

Sourav : "I'm not sure the third umpire handled that decision well! If the umpire's review was to check whether it was a bump ball, then the replays clearly showed it wasn't, so going only by that, it should have been adjudged out there itself! And how could the third umpire possibly make out without ultra edge that the ball didn't hit the bat? All this keeping the soft signal in mind which was given out, and by that there should be conclusive evidence that it was not out! " --- Agreed. Good thing there was DRS in operation today

Tom de Sailor: "Hey Al, why was ultra edge not used for the umpire's review?" ---- I thought that odd as well, but it perhaps makes sense considering the third umpire was called in to check the bump ball, which indicates the on-field umpires knew there was an outside edge.

ruchit khushu: "So Kohli bumps up is average by 0.8 runs and also helps his strike rate along the way !! For all the fuss about Kohli not being a big hitter has the best average and strike rate of all Indian batsmen in T-20 International cricket and easily the best combination in international cricket"

Southee to Kohli, 1 run, a slower ball, outside off, which is perfect with Kohli running at him, making room down leg. Somehow the batsman is able to reach across and slap it down to long-off

2
Southee to Kohli, 2 runs, falls between mid-off and deep cover! Williamson chases after it to his left, eyes up, but might he have done better to leave it to Bruce coming up from the boundary

1
Southee to Dhoni, 1 run, short ball now, Dhoni seems to be expecting it as he hangs back and pulls it to deep square leg
19.3
6
Southee to Dhoni, SIX, sends his first ball flying out to deep midwicket - reads the slower one, the one off the back of the hand, gets that big backlift going and once he makes contact, well....

1
Southee to Kohli, 1 run, back of a length, heaves it out to deep midwicket

Southee to Kohli, SIX, he's come out with the express purpose of treating his hometown! Steps out of his crease and even though it is a delivery meant to cramp the swing of his arms, he is able to send the ball soaring over long-on

Boult to Sharma, OUT, big appeal for caught behind, but the keeper doesn't and now the umpires are going to confer. Third umpire is called in, soft signal is out. This is an attempted yorker from Boult, wide outside off. Rohit tries to flay it away, but it's too quick for him. The reason the two on-field umpires wanted a second opinion was because they wanted to check on the bump ball. But instead, Anil Chaudhary comes back with, "bat hit the ground" and rules not out. That prompts New Zealand to review and the same man who ruled this not out has to change his decision because Ultra-Edge shows a spike as ball passes bat.

Boult to Sharma, FOUR, outside edge trickles away to the third man boundary. It's the slower ball fairly wide outside off, Rohit wants to smack it over mid-off but he'll take this outcome anyway

de Grandhomme to Kohli, 1 run, dropped at deep midwicket! Guptill is the man, another excellent fielder, but he hasn't picked up that he needs to run in, that Kohli has mistimed his swipe. By the time he compensates, putting in the big dive, he can't get under the ball

Sodhi to Pandya, OUT, ripper! That's the dream delivery for a legspinner. Drifting in towards leg stump, drawing the batsman forward, dipping before he can get to it and spinning square to take a bit of wood through to the wicketkeeper

As Dhawan walks away, Rohit calls him to share a handshake. Perhaps they've just realised they've recorded the highest opening stand for India. In walks Hardik Pandya, ahead of Virat Kohli

Sodhi to Dhawan, OUT, gorgeous work! It's the googly, a last resort for Sodhi as he sees the batsman advancing. He pitches it short, makes sure the line is wide outside off. Dhawan is charging, while making room to leg and has no chance of making contact. But it would seem that he has feathered a nick through to Latham, who also breaks the stumps to stump him
