4:50pm An innings of starts but no real standout innings. Five batters, including debutant Hasabnis, got more than 30. None of them, however, went past 42, which meant that India could not generate the sustained head of steam that could have powered them to a total in excess of 250. While some of it was down to a lack of conviction in strokes, it was largely because of how well New Zealand bowled.
They were put under pressure early by Shafali but they stuck at it and once they got rid of her, they tightened the screw. Amelia was the most successful of the bowlers, picking up four, with her sister Jess also bagging a three-wicket haul. Bates and Carson were also among the wickets with Bates' dismissal of Rodrigues proving key in a phase where India were threatening to get away. They will fancy their chances of chasing down this total, but the pitch is just stopping enough to keep India and their spinners interested too. Join us in a bit for the chase!
Eden Carson: Little bit of hold in the pitch but it is a good batting wicket. The Indian players came out hard at the start, especially Shafali. Good to pull them back and bowl our lines and lengths. Not as hot as Dubai but still hot, coming from T20s (smiles).
