2:44pm That was, well, a strange innings. Andrew fell for a duck in the second over, before King and Carty consolidated. The former registered a fifty, with the latter going on to notch up his fourth ODI hundred. Shai then offered further hope of a 350-plus score and while he was at the crease alongside Carty, that felt a real possibility. But then, like it has often happened for West Indies in recent years, the collapse came, and it finished with them not even batting their entire quota of overs.

England, meanwhile, would not be pleased with their fielding effort. They dropped a whole host of chances and this score, had they hung on to those opportunities, could have been a lot lesser. But this total could have been a lot bigger too, especially at 147-1 (after 25.1 overs), and they will be happy with how their bowlers reacted to close out the innings at 308. They will fancy their chances, especially with a short straight boundary in play, but West Indies will have runs on the board and that, in 300-plus chase, could come in handy. Andrew Miller will be back in about half an hour with the start of the second innings.

Mahmood to Hope, OUT, right off the toe-end, and West Indies have been bundled out with fourteen balls remaining in the innings! Mahmood plays the double-bluff and spears this in full and wide. Hope, as a reflex action, throws his bat at it, trying to manufacture something. But because his body shape is all wrong and moving to the leg side, he only pops it up tamely for Brook to collect in that region in the ring behind the umpire. Not the cleanest fielding effort England will ever produce, but they have done well to bowl WI out inside 48 overs!

Mahmood to Hope, FOUR, a mighty heave across the line, and Hope has something to show for it! Another slower ball dug into the track outside off. Hope picks it early, gets his front hip out of the way and pummels it to long on's right. Lands just inside the fence!

Mahmood to Hope, no run, slow and short outside off. Hope waits for it and cuts it towards deep point. Decides against taking the single too

Mahmood to Hope, no run, oh well! Back of a length wide outside off. Hope, rather ambitiously, looks for the reverse-lap and gets nowhere near making a solid connection

Seales at the other end. Hope on strike. Mahmood has the ball

Rashid to Joseph, OUT, timmmbbberrrrr, and that will be that for Joseph with the bat today! Much flatter and shorter on middle and leg. Pitches and skids on, and that does it for Joseph. He was looking to swipe it over cow corner but having been done in for pace, he could not prevent the ball from rattling into his stumps. Joseph walks back, and WI are nine down now!

Rashid to Joseph, FOUR, off the edge, and into the fence! Fizzed through quicker on a length on middle and off. Joseph swings like a rusty gate and the ball squirms away off the outside edge. Short third had no chance, and Joseph has 10 off 2!

Rashid to Joseph, SIX, oh, hello! Oh, hello! Floated up into the slot outside off and Joseph says thank you very much. He uses his long levers and launches it over long on!

Rashid to Motie, OUT, in the air again and this time, Root makes no mistake! Rashid, bravely, tosses it up again and deceives the batter in the flight. Motie looks to smoke this into the river but loses his shape entirely. Slices it a mile up and Root, stationed at long off, completes the catch. The lack of emotion suggests he is still miffed at what happened the previous ball, but that is, nevertheless, another wicket for Rashid and England!

Rashid to Hope, 1 run, miscued and Root puts down an absolute soda, would you believe it! Slowed up on a length just outside leg. Hope looks to repeat the dose but the inward angle means the bat face closes upon impact. Arrows it straight to Root, who grasses a very presentable chance!

Rashid to Hope, SIX, watch that ball sail into the river! This is a proper drag-down on middle and leg. Hope cannot believe his luck and clatters it a mile over long on. Into the trees and out of sight!

Jacks to Motie, FOUR, 16 off the over - just what the doctor ordered for the visitors! This is shorter and wider outside off. Motie throws his hands at it and chalks it off the toe-end past backward point!

Jacks to Motie, FOUR, clever, clever batting! Tossed up full on middle and off. Motie transfers his weight forward and then bends his back knee to get into position for the scoop. Nails it fully and lifts it over the keeper's head!

Jacks to Motie, no run, decent footy skills there by Motie! Back of a length, pitching on off and coming back in with the angle. Motie, trapped on the crease, seems to get rapped on the pad first before the ball ends up trickling towards the stumps. Motie, though, with his left foot, stops the ball dead and ensures his stumps are not dislodged. Might have been watching a bit of the UEFA Champions League final yesterday, by the looks of it. Among all of that, though, England have reviewed for an lbw. Could be heading down leg, and Ball Tracking confirms those suspicions. So, England do lose a review!

Hope will be happy with what he is seeing

Jacks to Motie, no run, on a length on middle and leg. Motie hangs back and taps it towards mid wicket

Jacks to bowl the 46th. Around the wicket to Motie. England's plan will be to starve Hope of as much strike as possible

Mahmood to Motie, 1 run, shortish on the hips and that is not the greatest hat-trick ball you will ever see. Motie gets up on his toes and helps it round the corner to get off the mark

Mahmood to Chase, OUT, nicked and gone! Mahmood on a hat-trick out of nowhere, and this West Indies innings is flagging now! Back of a length outside off and Chase, perhaps expecting the short ball, gets himself caught on the crease. Keeps a little low too and all he manages is a snick off the bottom edge as he goes fishing at it. Smart take by Buttler low to his right, and England have WI seven down with more than five overs to play!
