6.45pm Right then, Vish's report will be up soon so you can recap today's happenings. Until then, you can have a look at all the records Gill broke today (it's a long list!). Join us tomorrow to see how Day 3 pans out. Until then, on behalf of Alan, George, Sudeep and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, it's goodnight from Birmingham.

Shubman Gill: "[On his batting form] I worked on a few things before the series I thought were important for me going into Test cricket, and looking at the results, those things are working for me. [On his catch] Going and getting that catch was good for confidence. Fielding was something we spoke about between the two Tests. If we were half as good [in the field in Headingley] the result would have been different."

Ankky: "Huge partnership between Brook and Root tomorrow? 300-400?" -- England would hope so, and honestly, they are more than capable of doing that on a pitch this tame. England found their wickets in the evening session yesterday, and that's when they lost wickets today, so it may be an indicator that the morning and afternoon sessions are best for batting, so these two would want to get set and cash in.

VNaik: "19.5 Would Brook using his head to put the ball away be legitimate?" -- any part of the body, apart from his hands, would have been fine!

6.35pm Day 2 at Edgbaston belongs to India. Or more specifically, to India's captain, who hit a sublime 269 before taking a sharp catch in the cordon. Gill didn't give the opposition a sniff before India had already crossed 550, and he had crossed 250. He got great support from India's two spinners -- Ravindra Jadeja made 89, while Washington Sundar added 42. But then, on a pitch that looked like a dream to bat on, India's new-ball bowlers ran through England's top order. Akash Deep, playing in place of Bumrah, snaffled two in two before Mohammed Siraj accounted for Zak Crawley. Joe Root and Harry Brook then put on the resistance for England, seeing them out to stumps while keeping the scoreboard ticking. Brook had a nervy start, but will want to start strong tomorrow. But it will be India who still will feel, that with a few early wickets in the morning, can make it their game to lose!
