Charlie Dean: It was good to get going but batting didn't go as planned. For me to bowl the way I did, get a lot of confidence from that. Indian have played the conditions really well. It skidded on a little more on day one, stopping a bit more. I thought the Indian bowlers bowled a little slower. I think that's their natural pace compared to me and Sophie. They bowled in good areas and put us in a lot of pressure."
9.25am It's bright and sunny out here at the DY Patil Stadium, as usual. Slightly cool mornings until the sun comes out in all its glory (that's the Mumbai winter for you!) but it's not how hot it was during the Men's ODI World Cup recently. How should you really play spin here though? none other than Nat-Sciver Brunt has the answers.
Shiv: "@Gautammm, if you're planning to get them out, isn't it easier in the fourth inning? With that logic too, India's decision is the right one out appears."
Shadow-Shell: "@Gautammm Come on bro, they play test cricket once every blue moon. Let them enjoy it. Besides there's 2 full days remaining anyway"
9.15am There's been a lot of talk around the pitch, so it will be interesting to see how England hunt for the remaining four India wickets today. This is not a rank turner or a dustbowl; it's a turning track where the ball has started turning early and there is something for the quicks too, if you try to target the stumps. India's bowlers were a lot more successful because they offered a lot more flight outside off, tempted the batters with that above-the-eyeline trajectory and found turn too, with a lot of close-in fielders waiting like hyenas. England's spinners bowled slightly quicker and flatter, but when they did take the pace off, they found success too. S Sudarshanan has been at the ground and wrote about how England ran into Deep(ti) trouble.
"@Vishal, 14 at the max! :)" Haha, astute observation. Shiv!
Gautammm: "I really believe India should have given follow-on to English team. I'm a big believer in following-on and getting the opponents out than allowing them time to chase and slow the game to defend and draw. At this level tiring out isn't much of a thing, especially in cool and pleasant winter weather in Navi Mumbai. What say"
Raji: "Feels like in recent times NSB is the only one keeping ENG's standards high. This year has been the best year in women's cricket. Gaps between the teams are closing in. SL, BAN and PAK are dominating to some extend. More matches are really helping all the teams. Eagerly waiting to see how India is going to handle Meg less Aussies. May not be popular opinion but McGrath should have taken over the captaincy. "
9.05am Seven wickets on day one and then 19 on the second! I shudder to think what could be in store for the third day, and it's possible the Test may not even go into day four. Greetings one and all, and welcome to our coverage of this one-off Test between India and England being played in Navi Mumbai. I'm Vishal Dikshit and Valkerie Baynes will join us in a bit. Did you miss the action on the second day that was filled with wickets? No worries, here's the report to catch up with things.
5.00pm And that will be stumps. India lead by a mammoth 478 runs and are in complete command. Some 19 wickets fell in the day, England didn't take long to end India's first innings but, other than Nat Sciver-Brunt's half-century and Charlie Dean's four-wickets so far in this innings, there's been little to smile about for the tourists. Harmanpreet is unbeaten on 44, well supported by Pooja Vastrakar's 17 not out but Deepti Sharma's stunning 5 for 7 in 5.3 over was the standout performance of the day.
Vishal's report will be up shortly and Sudarshanan will have more for you to read from the ground. From all of us, thank you for your company and we very much look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow.
