Well, that's all she wrote folks. New Zealand take command of the series 2-1 as the caravan continues on to Dunedin on January 23 for the fifth ODI. We certainly hope you will be able to join us for that. Till then though, this is ESPNcricinfo wishing you a good night, wherever you are.

Kane Williamson, Man of the Match: Had a few days off which was nice. Just relaxed and caught up with friends and family. Just wanted the shoulder to heal. It was nice to get off to a reasonable start. It is always nice to bat with other blokes who are scoring freely. It was great initially with Grant, before Corey took over. To finish it off the way we did with Ronchi was just superb. I am still very much working on my bowling, and am pretty happy with how it is progressing. I don't want to rush it and want to keep learning to bowl more and more.

Williamson is the Man of the Match

Brendon McCullum, New Zealand captain: Really good effort from the bowlers to give us a score under par. Kane showed how experienced he is and how he can formulate a gameplan. Also finished off well by Corey and Ronchi. Probably a little bit more bounce here on the Oval. Pace was certainly there in comparison to last year. Really good cricket wicket and crowd. We don't know yet about Milne (injured rib cage). The beauty of this team is that someone else will step up in case anything goes wrong. They expect us to fight hard and I will try to lead by example. Elliott had a tough time of late, but he showed strength of character and was one of the assets the selectors were keen to see. He is a great team man, and is a classy batsman at club level, and the partnership he formed with Kane was crucial to getting us into this. Kane has been wonderful and its great to see him work his magic.

Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka captain: After the start we got, I thought the lower order batted poorly. I thought Dilshan, Sangakkara and Mahela batted beautifully. It was a very good wicket, didn't turn as much or slow up, but it was a good batting track. The spinners have been bowling brilliantly, especially on that wicket. They came on to bowl pretty well. We just couldn't take wickets and strike regularly.

6.38 pm Please stay with us as we await quotes from the match presentation

Ronchi is pleased to get a couple over the rope and see the team through. Pleased with how Dan gave him support at the other end. Sees every game leading to the World Cup as crucial to NZ's preparations.

6.34 pm The ever-important 48th over has proven to tell the tale here at Nelson as Ronchi and Vettori seal a four-wicket victory for New Zealand to take a 2-1 series lead. Sri Lanka's 270-odd didn't prove to be quite the handful they were hoping, and they were definitely arguably 30-40 runs short at the interval. Kane Williamson's 103 undoubtedly anchored the chase, while Anderson's 47 and Elliott's 44 ensured they were able to see the mission out.

Senanayake to Vettori, FOUR, Vettori sends everyone at the Oval on their merry way with a scythe behind square on the off side to find the boundary

Perera to Ronchi, SIX, 104 kph, no need for the extra balls. Ronchi has just leveled the scores with another mighty blow. Saw this slower ball early before waiting and then dropping the back knee to send yet another one high over long off. The crowd is over the moon, and New Zealand require just one to take a 2-1 series lead
47.5
6
Perera to Ronchi, SIX, 131 kph, sayonara! Ronchi waits, then gets under this Perera length delivery to strike this cleanly over long off this time for yet another six. Ronchi has taken over at the Saxton Oval!
47.4
0
Perera to Ronchi, no run, 104 kph, slower ball on off which is drilled hard at Mathews at mid off, who puts in a wonderful diving stop
47.3
2
Perera to Ronchi, 2 runs, 131 kph, Perera looking for the blockhole as this one is turned into a low full toss which he heaves over cow corner, but doesn't quite get the placement right on it for it to hit the rope. These three balls have effectively made it NZ's game to lose now
47.2
6
Perera to Ronchi, SIX, 135 kph, what a blow! Ronchi has turned this match on its head with two big hits. This time is fed a fuller one on middle which he gets nicely under and lifts high over long on for six
47.1
4
Perera to Ronchi, FOUR, 135 kph, big moment this. Hammers this fuller length ball pitched from round the wicket to get this high over mid off to find the cover boundary. Didn't quite time his jump there, but this was always going at a rate of knots

25 off 18 now. Tense stuff at the Saxton at the moment

END OF OVER:
47 | 5 Runs | NZ: 252/6 (25 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 5.36, RRR: 8.33)

  • Luke Ronchi8 (9b)

Kulasekara to Ronchi, 1 run, 123 kph, gets nice and low before crunching this past the bowler to long off
46.5
1
Kulasekara to Vettori, 1 run, 102 kph, slower ball bouncer going across the batsman as Vettori drags this one down to just about manage a single and get off strike
46.4
1
Kulasekara to Ronchi, 1 run, 121 kph, delivered in the same channel as this time the batsman is able to get it away to deep extra-cover

MCB: "I think the umpires may have got that wrong and should have let SL review the LBW first. The consequences are which batsmen is actually out and whether SL have a review left or not. Then if it's not out go to third umpire for the run out. "

46.3
0
Kulasekara to Ronchi, no run, 101 kph, slower ball outside off which is drilled straight at Mathews' shoulder, who looks to be in a bit of pain after he fielded the ball
46.2
1
Kulasekara to Vettori, 1 run, 120 kph, tucked away off the pads by Vettori as a good flat throw from the deep keeps them to just the one
46.1
1
Kulasekara to Ronchi, 1 run, 121 kph, able to ease this one outside off down to long off

This should be a gripping finish. Kula with the ball. Ronchi on strike

END OF OVER:
46 | 6 Runs 1 Wkt | NZ: 247/6 (30 runs required from 24 balls, RR: 5.36, RRR: 7.50)

  • Luke Ronchi5 (5b)
  • Daniel Vettori1 (1b)
  • Thisara Perera7-0-34-1
  • Rangana Herath9-1-39-1

Equation now 31 off 25, with four wickets in hand. Another good over for SL can do some damage though..

1
Perera to Ronchi, 1 run, 139 kph, drills this one straight to long off to end a successful over for the visitors
45.5
1
Perera to Vettori, 1 run, 135 kph, fires in another full delivery on middle which is clipped away for one by Vettori

All of a sudden this game has gravitated back towards SL. Anderson's dismissal could be a turning point here... Daniel Vettori is the new batsman

45.4
W
Perera to Ronchi, OUT, 133 kph, huge appeal for LBW by Perera as he is absolutely positive he has trapped his man in front. When the umpire remains unmoved though, the two batsmen, who don't quite make it to their ends, end up just sauntering back. Dilshan, who is wise to the situation, keenly fires in a throw at Anderson's end, and hits the target with the batsman just short of his crease. This is a big wicket in the context of the game as he threatened to take this match away. Great thinking to fire in a throw at his end

CJ Anderson run out 47 (56m 44b 2x4 2x6) SR: 106.81

Lakitha: ""Can SL get themselves back into this?" , I don't think they are out of it, not yet."

45.3
2
Perera to Ronchi, 2 runs, 135 kph, looking for the blockhole as this really low full toss is chipped away low through midwicket, with the fielder putting in a dive low to his left, but unable to snag the chance
45.2
1
Perera to Anderson, 1 run, 133 kph, looking to get this away through long on, but ends up inducing an outside edge which streaks away to third man
45.1
1
Perera to Ronchi, 1 run, 137 kph, targeting the stumps of middle and leg as this is clipped behind square on the leg side

END OF OVER:
45 | 11 Runs | NZ: 241/5 (36 runs required from 30 balls, RR: 5.35, RRR: 7.20)

  • Corey Anderson46 (43b)
  • Luke Ronchi1 (1b)
  • Rangana Herath9-1-39-1
  • Thisara Perera6-0-28-1

Neil: "Williamson's done most of the work, time for the big hitters Anderson, Ronchi, and Southee to finish it off. "

44.6
4
Herath to Anderson, FOUR, another powerful sweep which Chandimal ends up over-running at deep square leg, with the ball rushing behind him to find the rope. Mathews would be let down by that fielding effort in the deep
44.5
2
Herath to Anderson, 2 runs, straying on the pads as this is worked round the corner to deep fine leg, with the fielder at deep square leg coming hard to his left to cut this before the rope
